Silence everyone!

I cried a little after seeing this post, seriously an m14 with a suppressor, man would that be cool to hunt with. Our laws against firearms don't make sense anyways so why even try to figure them out.

NO!

w:h:ha: psycho! ;)

Well it's only fair that NZ can at the very least have silencers...
Aside from shooting there's not much to do there except shear sheep and make movies about hobbits....:D

Kidding...

Between Canada's BS gun laws and New Zealand's gun laws, I would choose Canada - even if that means no silencers! :p

Silencers should be legal and possibly even mandatory at some ranges. I've seen a lot of housing projects creeping towards ranges. It's only a matter of time before they start complaining about noise from the ranges.

Unfortunately Canada still has many firearms laws that were created by people who know nothing about firearms. C68 should have been labelled the Die Hard law. If it was in the movie die hard then it was prohibited. Not based on reality.

We have been considering for some time now to make these barrel shrouds for the AR 15, M14 & the VZ 58 platform's. Being that they are a barrel shroud they will make your long barrel look shorter but still give the effect & looks of a silencer although we are afraid that the demand isn't there for this product.
If we notice enough interest in this thread maybe in the new year we will release something for all those who dis-like Fenix.NZ torturing us.

I wouldn't say "mandatory", it's nice to shoot without silencers, but sure would be nice to shoot with them if we choose to.

Silencers are legal in Canada.

It's just the unwashed masses that are not allowed to have them.

Register a Corporate Entity that has a need for one, such as a municipality, or a pest control company, for instances, and the permits can be got. Jump through the hoops and start up a company that makes them for export, and you can even take them out to the range for testing.
IIRC there is at least one fella on CGN that is involved in such.

(start sarcasm here!) Too scary for the masses to have though.(end sarcasm)

Until a few years from now when urban sprawl has reached the rural gun clubs, they will change the law to allow them (may we hope make mandatory?)

Look at the size of that thing! Couldn't they have made it any bigger?

Time to move to New Zealand

You'd be better off moving to the US. NZ silencers tend to be inexpensive and low tech .... meaning they are HUGE and not nearly as quiet or durable as the more advanced designs that we see on this continent.

Forget the fact that using one effectively requires subsonic rounds, reduced loads, and lest we forget, concealement becomes a non issue.

What you talkin bout Willis? Silencers work just fine with conventional supersonic rounds. Most modern designs are capable of reducing the muzzle signature below the limit for hearing damage from impulse sound ..... meaning they make the gun safe to shoot without hearing protection.

Isn't it sweden where they are mandatory in some instances so as to reduce the noise pollution?

I'm not sure about Sweden but I know that in Finland they are encouraged in order to reduce noise pollution.

Everybody needs a can

Why limit yourself to only one? :)

That would be me. :)

I have never heard of a pest control company being licenced to own silencers. AFAIK they can only be purchased by government entities (federal, provincial or municiple).

If some smart gun owner had purchased that entire town in Saskatchewan that was for sale they could have gotten a Public Agency Number as the local government and thus become eligible to own silencers for town use. :)

That would be awesome. I would totally get one for the AR 15

I'll take your interpretation of a Corporate Entity as better than mine. Just guessing, but I'd say your info comes from a closer-to-the-source reading of the books, than mine does.

I suppose one could become the town pest control guy, and have the town own the goods.

There are still a few one-horse towns in boondocks SK, that cold be bought up for about the limits of a credit card, providing one was willing to live that far away from anything looking like making a living...
