Singleshot Rifle

And for when you're *not* hunting ... :)

I have a nicely framed print of one of those late-1800 western paintings on the wall of my living room. It's a glowing early-evening scene ... very peaceful-looking ... campfires and teepees ... of a native encampment just below The Three Sisters near Banff ... and on the wall just above the painting (sitting on a couple of felt-lined old-timey brass gun hooks) is an iron-sighted Ruger No. 1 Light Sporter in 30-06.

It is a perfect and beautiful image ... gun as art.

I feel good whenever I look at that wall. And there's a strung-and-ready-to-go Scott rod above the three windows just to the left :)

PLEASE post a pic of that wall. I'd love to see it.

The Gravel Agency is the customer service agent for H&R in Canada. (They are in Quebec.) Last time I talked to them they said they are trying to persuade H&R to supply them with extra barrels and allow them to run the accessory barrel program in Canada. Contact Gravel and tell them how many you think you would want if it were to happen - the more customers they can report asking for it, the better the chance H&R may decide it's worth it.

I've talked to Gravelle many times about accessory barrels, they said that Remington does not want to have barrels fit outside the Ilion factory for liability reasons... Bummer, it would be a great resource in Canada... There are barrels available in the EE now and again. I have a new .30/06 barrel posted there now and have sold half a dozen others, I have also bought a couple from the EE. It couldn't hurt to call Gravelle and express an interest in accessory barrels. Gravelle; 1-866-662-4869. I just received an order of forearm spacers from Gravelle, as I make custom stocks for Handi rifles (not commercially) and I am working on a batch of walnut/rosewood straight stock Mannlicher style sets. For those of you who have bought Boyd's Sterling sets for your H&R rifles, only to discover that it did not include the forearm spacer, you can get them at Gravelle for $5, call the above number.

I just renewed my love for the Handi Rifle. I bought a synthetic in .45-70 and a Sportster Synthetic in .22 LR. Both guns are well made ( by Remington) and nicely finished. I like the idea of positive mechanical extraction instead of ejector. My old Handi in .45-70 hit me in the fore head with an ejected 405 soft point load when I was unloading it with cold hands. I am trying some Trail Boss and Black powder over cast 400 grain bullets to start. Something about the little guns that I love. Maybe because they are so handy..
