I recently acquired this rifle and goodies from a long time friend who purchased it from a special ops vet. As you can see, it has received the common bitumen treatment in typical Iraqi fashion, and is complete with Iraqi military \2/ mark on the right side of the stock and lightly EPed? on the bottom of the receiver. Its a 23m 1978 Jianshe /26\ rifle with the french tickler hg. The rifle, sea-bag with three signatures, and beret were reportedly taken off a surrendering Iraqi soldier during Operation Iraqi Freedom. Many of you old timers know the seller and I have no doubts about its authenticity. Having said that, I did not pay for the story... I payed for the rifle which was a fair price, and NO... it is not import marked. In the US, it wouldn't be a bringback if it was import marked.

Ill just let you be the judge... enjoy the pics.

Point is... there is every type with no standard. Its a real melting-pot in regards to small arms. Chrome Republican guard rifles that later saw action. Late Chinese m21, 23m, 24m rifles, yugos, replacement fiberglass/plastic stocks, Yugos, some unit marked, some rack numbered, some property marked on the receiver, some property marked on the stock, many covered in bitumen.

I have talked to a few vets that personally disarmed Iraqis and contained them. What I show you in the OP has been observed and captured. The soldier that undoubtedly snuck this home picked a very nice specimen.

Operator beard. Lol

Im not a bitumen expert but being a natural asphalt I'm aure there is a way to make it semi harden. Its still tacky on the stock.

Strange... I'd never heard of it being used as a gun finish before this. I'd think something sticky would be bad in a place where sand is blowing around all over the place.
More research I must do.
Cheers!

Its really not sticky. In Texas its very humid and its barely tacky under the worst heat/humidity. In the house air conditioning you can dig a fingernail in it but its not tacky at all. Im sure in a dry environment it would ne pretty hard.
