size of animals on tv hunting shows

I shoot what I see,..and what seems to be good for the area...

Does, fawns, bucks, calves, ... if I can legally shoot it and use it, I will...

I get a kick out of some of the shows... especially the ones where "every" shot was a good one yet they cut away from the animal being hit and it's edited til about 20 minutes later when they are beside the dead animal.

I get a bigger kick out of the guys who have 20 or 30 pictures of all the bucks using their planted field, get in their blind and wait for "george" or "ruffy" the buck to come out.

Reminds of me ordering toys out of the xmas catalogue.

I rarely see hunting that reflects the hunting that many of us do.

No one ever gets their feet wet, or breaks out a few sandwiches, ...
no one ever falls arse over kettle,... no one ever drops their bullets or stops for a leak, no one ever blows their nose or scratches their ass,...
On the Newfoundland Sportsman show I find it's real...
I see the guys laughing and joking, out ofbreath trying to keep up with their bird dogs, taking spiker moose, missing rabbits, stuck on their quad or in their truck,...

one of Dad's friends did a bird hunt for one of their shows, ... they didn't get one bird all day, and actually submitted it,.. I saw it, and it was an enjoyable show.

Very much the same as many enjoyable hunts, have seen me leave empty handed..

I've never been to the maritimes, but I enjoy the Newfoundland Sportsman as well. A couple of guys that it looks like it would be fun to hunt with. At least they're not corporate shills that use whatever equipment that pays the most, not what is best suited for the job. Did you see the show where there were two guys standing in the front of the boat with their shotguns ready as it ran full speed at the sea ducks? The idea was to shoot the ducks before they dived without slowing down. Seemed a bit bizarre and dangerous but I guess that's the way they do it out there.

Anyone catch that show on wild TV yesterday filmed in Quebec? I didn't catch the name of the show. It was on shooting woodcock and grouse. They had a wirehaired pointing griffon. A husband and wife were shooting over the dog, but they were shooting the grouse on the ground and out of trees. Didn't seem very sporting. Is that common in Quebec? I was brought up to never ground swat or take them out of trees with a shotgun.

Pretty common here.

Most grouse in BC are shot sitting in a ditch on the side of a road, or flused into a tree. .22's, .420's and 20 guages are used for this, as well as big game rifles.:p

Yep pretty common here too, except we use 22's and .410 for chicken. :D

Here on the island the birds flush at about 200 yds and you can barely see them but at the moose camp they're so dumb you can pretty much walk up and hit em over the head with a stick.

I normally reduce anything a fisherman says by 1/3. 10 pounders usually weigh about 6 1/2. 2 pounder "eater" walleye are about 1 1/4.
Hunting isn't much different. 400 yard shots might be 250, gross scores will be given in the hopes that you will think he means net and every WT buck that isn't a forkhorn is a "140 class" especially if he "passed it up". "Passed it up" might mean "didn't have a chance", "saw it from the truck", or it was on posted land.
Once you understand the code, hunter speak is easy to follow.

You forgot to mention that pics taken must have the shooter atleast 5 feet behind the animal. Whatever the max distance is he will still stay in focus. Why not beside the animal boys:p

If you use a wide angle lens you can make the animal huge by moving the hero back a smaller amount. It's more subtle, but very effective.Magazines are full of this type of shot. It also locks the attention on the subject and makes everything else background.
One thing that I've noticed about pictures of me and dead things is that nobody really wanted to see me anyway. I could be 50 feet back and nobody would notice.:( Some would think it an improvement.

No need for trickery photo nonsense

The most enjoyable hunting show i have seen on wild tv is The Duck Commander. They joke around and its a family out hunting. There is a few videos on youtube worth looking up if u have not seen the show before.
