So I was wondering if I am legally allowed to own, ONLY TO OWN!, a 30 round mag for the sks without actually using it on the range. The thing would not leave the safe. I am just wondering what is the law on that.

The law is that it is a prohibited device. Simple possession (without any kind of use) is punishable by time in jail.

Plug it to "5" with a rivet and you're fine.If you keep it 30 ,you may as well convert your SKS to full auto and have some fun, because the punishment you get if they catch you is about the same...Sure enough,a five round limit doesn't make sense at all ( What, you could shoot 5 people, but six is too much?)My opinion is also,If you don't shoot anybody with 5,then why would you with 30?? Law is Law,sorry (Common sense is almost the opposite).

Thanks for the feedback guys. I was simply wondering because I was talking with a buddy about this after watching a zombie movie LOL. So Simple possession of a mag with a larger capacity than 5 is prohibited...

You can have a 30 rounder that is functional if it has the stupid little rivet in there that "neuters" it to 5 rounds yes.

Put a cordless drill next to your pinned mags in your safe. Soon as you see a Zombie, use it.

If you want to have full cap mags - become a manufacturer and get the appropriate licenses and permits...or keep a safe house on the other side of the border. Not really any other way around it at the moment.

Can't someone make a lousy rimfire bullet with the same exterior dimensions as the .223....then design a crummy rifle to fire said bullet with a magazine that holds 20-30 (or more) rounds...then proceed to sell almost no rifles but make a killing on the mags? (Which happen to fit the AR, or SKS...or whatever the case may be...hey, we'll make a lot of different rifles with different magazine styles)

We can call the cartridge the .223 JÄGER LOOPHOLE.

Five rounds ONLY for a semi-auto centerfire rifle magazine. Period.

When the zombies come, all bets are off.

Can you really say period though when AR mags are allowed to have 10 rounds and are semi-auto center fire rifles?

The key word is RIFLE magazine. The LAR-15 mags are PISTOL magazines.

so yes, All semi-auto centerfire riffle mags must be pinned to 5 rounds.

I never would have imagined this going so far... Ha this is awesome!!!
I do not understand (well I do, it makes no sense) why it is illegal for me to own one in the comfort of my PRIVATE home (read SAFE). I do not plan on using it at the range or anything else. I simply enjoy knowing that in case god forbid some crazy scenario is to come up I do not need to reload after five bullets and run the chance of getting bit.......(u see what I just did there?) But hey, if something like that does happen, 5 round limit is the last worry correct?
