good points on the bayonet, you're right, but I have to disagree with this one, cause it's still nice to have the cleaning kit in the stock somewhere...regardless if you take it out of the stock or not...if I fire non corrosive, I field strip and just clean the moving bits and the chamber and bore and give the receiver a good wipe down...I don't take it out of the stock, though that AK inspired bump behind the receiver cover may interfere with brushing the chamber. corrosive ammo on the other hand, I give all metal parts a hot bath I'd like to hold one installed in the stock before buying...don't need to fire it, but I'd have to test drive the feel.

it is a nice stock, but I couldn't bring myself to hacking the lug off, even though my 54 izzy is a refurb. if I did get the stock, I would have to leave it on...

Why?

I clean mine after every use, and only if it rained , fogged, or snowed will I take it out of the stock. Also, I wont buy another ATI folding stock, as I dont really like it because of personal preference, that said, you said you kind of have to toss the cleaning kit but there is an empty buffer tube in the back of the ATI you can store whatever you want in. Just pull the butt off, wrap whatever you want stored in there in a cloth or paper towel, and there ya go.

And let me say that I have dealt with Hical before, it was awesome, Dave answered all my questions and everything I ordered was at my door a couple of days later.

Boiling water doesn't do the stock much good. I ruined the shellac on the beaters wood stock that way. Besides, maybe I'm just overly thorough, but I like to clean and oil every single component once I'm done shooting. It takes all of a minute to completely strip down an SKS, so I don't really see a good excuse not to. I have one of those ATI folders too, what a POS! I hate the look of the Tapco, so I figured I was stuck with the original wood stock...until these beauties popped up here! I can't wait to toss the beater in one!

cranswick, the solution to your problem is simple...do what I did, buy another SKS, put the nicest one in the cabinet, and butcher the other one to suit! Haha

Already there...my 1950 Tula non-refurb is still in cosmo, in storage If i could find a used chinese version for less than what they are worth new (which is strangely more difficult than it should be), then i may consider it, but even then, that plus the stock and mags, i could put that toward something else since i already have 2

I mostly fire corrosive, but i do my sighting, (may even try hunting) with Hornady SST.

Corrosive, that answers the stock thing, I don't shoot corrosive so I just use one step gun cleaner for mine. The one time I took it out of the stock, there was absolutely nothing to clean, so I didnt bother doing it again. Sure its easy, everything about cleaning an SKS is easy, but the question is, whats the point? As I said , I did it once, it was clean as the day I got the cosmo off of it. I am answering to "I dont see it being a major issue" And I dont see the major issue of cleaning a part that stays clean.

And honestly, its most likely bad practice to sit a dealers thread and claim a product they sell is a total piece of ####. The only thing wrong with the ATI stock is the butt wiggles a bit, and the folding is pointless because it folds to the wrong side. It gives a rifle with a puny length of pull a perfect one with a nice cheek rest, and you can add stuff to it if thats your thing, and I also really like the look of it. But seeing as you need to remove the rifle from the stock every time to boil it, I can see why you wouldn't like it , removing the handle is not the best.

I also like to clean and oil the trigger group, and the magazine when I'm not using the 20/5 plastic dealie. Like I said, I like to be thorough. The first one had not been well taken care of and the trigger group was a bit gunked up when I got it. I had no issues taking it apart with the ATI stock, just as easy as the original. The butt wiggles like crazy, which is really my main complaint. It also needs bedding in a bad way. It IS a total piece of ####, which is why I'm so stoked to get the Archangel stock...I believe that's what we're all here for?

ill have to make a trip down to hi cal in the summer and see this thing in person. Id buy one sight unseen but Id really like to have it in my hands before I fork over 200+ bux

If you think 80 dollars is going to make a world of difference when getting this stock instead, and you think the bedding is going to be awesome, I dunno, I just wouldnt be comparing these stocks until you actually see this one.

Remember , ATI , tapco, archangel, they are all making stocks for one rifle that was made by a number of different manufacturers over a number of different years.

If you think 80 dollars is going to make a world of difference when getting this stock instead, and you think the bedding is going to be awesome, I dunno, I just wouldnt be comparing these stocks until you actually see this one.

It's not "his" stock, it's something incredibly common that he carries in stock same as almost every other retailer, there is nothing about it that is particular to hical and you're trying to start a fight over nothing. Grow up. The Archangel, on the other hand, could be called "his" because pretty much nobody else has them. Also, $80? Nice try. You're about $50 off base there. This stock is $200, back in the day I paid $70 for my ATI folder from Wanstalls, so yeah I'm expecting it to be quite a bit better. And if you can't get any movement between the stock and action then you're not trying hard enough. It's a cheap, POS stock for people who want a cheap way to tacticool their SKS. If that's all you want, by all means go for it, but it is a POS. End of story.
