SKS at Reliable Guns?

It has very little to do with where the gun is from, but more what you're looking for. Any surplus SKS will make a reliable shooter for years after purchase. It comes down to price, and vintage if you're a collector. Most SKS rifles come into the country through the same half dozen importers. The only thing a dealer has anything thing to do with is price and quantity.

If they have what you want for a good price, buy it. If they don't, purchase from somewhere else.

That seems to make sense. Reliable seems to be the king of guns stores around here so I thought maybe they had an advantage with getting better stuff. I don't know much about guns really. I look at an SKS and wouldn't really know how to choose a decent one from a probable ####ty one. I think I sort of know how to inspect the barrel but that's about it. If a salesperson wanted to take advantage of me, they totally could by telling me it's a good one.

They wont rip you off. All of the gun stores around here are reputable with good tract record. They all have good product its just the level of friendliness and the physical location that's different. canadaammo has a sks + ammo combo for $399

If all you're looking for is a good shooter, its hard to go wrong for up to 200 bucks. A little bit more gets you something in pristine condition or laminate stock, and collectors SKS rifles goes up from there. Personally, I get most of my Russian toys from Westrifle but even some Canadian Tire stores have had some real gems in the piles if you know what to look for.

If the rifle has a silver bolt and matching numbers for under 200 bucks, its probably a good deal. They will all shoot well and make you horny at the gun range; refurb, non-refurb, collector, or otherwise.

Canada ammo does not sell Russian Sks. As to Reliable, Wanstall's and Hi caliber and lots of other small stores in Vancouver all of those stores will not sell you crap.
As to importers of Sks there is only three importers in Canada and one brings in crap.

So the importer that brings in crap......who is it? Maybe your direct local competition. To the OP, you can't go wrong with any of the Russian or Chinese SKS's on the market today. The best thing to do is go to the local dealers and pick out your own rifle, then you will not be disappointed with what you receive in the mail if you decide to go the mail order route.

What does Canada ammo sell for sks then, it says Russian on their site and in stock. Not trying to start anything, honestly asking. Also Reliable Gun are good people and great to deal with too.

CanAm sells Russians, the 1950 Tula I bought from them is proof of it.

Op, buy from reliable or lever in confidence, last couple visits to reliable they had nice parkerized sks on the rack but no blued versions. Lever always has both finishes as well as laminates and birch stocks. You can't beat levers $375 sks and 1320 end crate of ammo combo, plus you get to hand pick your rifle.

Ha, I was there today and was told that you can pick a few from looking through the case but can't look at all of them (there were about 30 in the case). Don't know if that sounds reasonable but I was kind of miffed that they don't have the time to let you look through 30 rifles.

FYI, International Shooting supplies will have SKSs for sale Dec 6th for $149

Bought one there last year for the same price, sweet gun

Reliable (or any other company) cannot guarantee the quality of the SKS.
Neither will they guarantee any degree of accuracy.
As long as it works, once you buy it's yours. For best or for worst.

Haha, I guess results may vary. Although I've never had them say anything like that to me but I've always known what year of sks I was picking out as well as if it was laminate or birch. I've bought one from them and helped a friend pick 2 plus ammo and some cleaning gear, so I guess they remember I've spent or helped people spend some money there. Who knows, maybe buddy hadn't had his morning coffee yet?

My regular guy was busy (who has been more than helpful dealing with broken equipment issues).. who is awesome and very helpful so I'm not raggin' on Lever by any means. When I've got dollars in hand, I'll make sure I deal with the guy I usually deal with.

I always spend about 20 minutes looking through the glass, make a short list and then ask one of the gents to open up. I never had bad service at Lever. It's like a barber shop versus a salon (like Reliable). Both are great so long as you go in with the proper expectation.

Kind of like this barber shop...
