SKS at the range

Found a CD with old photos circa 2005. Here is my test SKS that was super accurate..

But I destroyed a good SKS.. They were dirt cheap back then.. So nobody cared..

What are you up reading? Were did I can say i wanted that sks,? I tapped out two pins and pressed off the front site block. How is that destroying anything? Or is it the three tiny holes for the rail that so offend you?

I'm not offended by anything you do, I'm laughing. :)

And added to my ignore list

The vzs are supior in a lot of ways. I always found the stock to short for me.
I had more reliability issues on my cz then i liked, i had one with the gremlin and it stove piped on some magazines.

The 4 I had never ran as well as an SKS. Still great rifles and I preferred them but you're right.

Very odd.. I had 2 and never had issues. I just found the VZ58 more accurate, and built better. Plus it looked cooler. I had one with a M4 stock, that solved the shortness issues. But back then I didn't shoot as much as I do now.. I do kind of miss my Chinese SKS with the ATI Ultra Lite stock.

Actually I think there is a SKS D in Dads locker. Probably hasn't been shot in 15 years.

The SKS is a 1/4 the price and has much more durable parts. But thats about it. The VZ 58 was superior in every other aspect.

The VZ 58 is slightly more accurate but that's about all, they both shoot the same round and there's little difference between them. If I could only have one rifle I would be happy with either

I disagree with u once again.

My findings is the VZ 58 is considerably more accurate. Lighter weight, better balanced, better mags, better accessories like a bolt release, better support for optics, safer design, feeds soft points reliably, has a threaded muzzle, better trigger and a better safety switch = yes its basically superior.

i managed to get out to the range today with my SKS. I shot one 5 shot group with it free floated and then switched back to the setup i had before. It was apparent very quickly that the free float did not improve accuracy and arguably made it worse. Windage was tight 2 MOAish, but the gun vertically strung upwards (4-6 MOAish). The result wernt worth the trouble of filming. I think ill keep the system i have and just refine it a bit. Which basically entails bedding the locking lug at the front ferrule more so it tensions the barrel to the same spot every time the gun is reassembled. Snapped some pics of JB weld bed job i did while constructing the stock. And what the front locking system looks like.

Yup, and someone with a SKS will spend the cost of a VZ 58 plus more ( I bought a VZ58 with a A2 grip, M4 stock, and quad rail with 4 mags for 900$ ) to basically have all the options of the VZ 58. Tapco, duckbill mags, or they will get a mag kit, spend 150$ or more to get the barrel threaded ETC ETC ETC.. Fight with many scope options, or accessories. I know my first SKS many years ago. There wasn't many options to mount a optic, that wasn't a utter fail. Most of the muzzle brakes ended up being grenades and down range.

And could get the VZ in different barrel lengths. 19" ( NR ) 15.8, 11.8 and the useless but super fun 7.5". Also in 223 and 7.62x39 with the CSA.

excluding 858 prices

900 bucks is a hell of deal by todays standards. I payed 1024 bucks for my CSA back in the Obama era. Before the ban 1300 was the cheapest they went for. Still worth that kind of money imo.

The difference between us is that almost all the things you consider make the model 58 superior I regard as being trivial and childish.

So having a pistol grip, muzzle brake, detachable mag, better scope mount is Childish?....so like pushing a barrel mount, that nobody else wants, isn't?

Well, we can at least agree that the SKS is superior in the fact that you can actually take it out to the range at the moment.
