SKS Bayonets

Now CT isn't the only place to dislike bayo's. Even the US has rules about new manufactured guns with bayonet lugs. For example I just purchased a Springfield M1A Match rifle and the it has the special Match muzzle flash hider but no bayo lug and yet we can get the Norinco copy with a bayo lug for about 1/3 the price.

Gun rules/laws don't need to make sense.

I went to a CT store in the Vancouver area a few years ago and tried to buy a machette, I use them for clearing hiking trails in the mountains. The girl I talked to was shocked by such a request. When I asked her why they didn't have any, she mumbled something about dangerous times. So I smiled at her and asked if I could buy an axe and a crow bar. She smiled and said that those they had. No irony there.

Last I seen the ones in Woodstock ON still had em on. I did notice that the bayos for the mosins were on a shelf with a $20 tag on them... kinda pissed me off, It goes with the rifle when you buy it... guess they need to up the profit somehow

I hate Canadian Tire. They cater to the gun shy fear of the suburban yuppies and escort me to the till for as little as a god damn optic. Like I can use it to magnify the sunlight and sun laser people through the head in mid shop... I find that quite offensive. I am going to complain next time just for the hell of it.

Well, I had an interesting SKS buying experience yesterday at the Garden City CT in Winnipeg. Took forever(over 1/2 hour} to get someone to help and then the gun was put in a large garbage bag and escorted to the cashier, seriously..classy. I did not realize they included none of the usual accessories until I got home, very weird experience, at least it had a bayonet.

You got the wrong employee. I had a similar experience, then went back and picked up one for a buddy. The guy serving me the second go round gave me a big bag o' goodies to go with. Last Mosin I bought from WSS, they found the goodies in the bottom of the crate while digging around for a hex receiver for me. She gave me four sets of Mosin wrenches, oilers and cleaning kits. :)

Scopes are a high risk theft item. That's why they're escorted to the till. Store policy. Otherwise they would be stolen, and lovely customers like yourself would not have any to choose from to buy. It also keeps the price from increasing because of lost profit margins. If you actually think its escorted for your own and others safety, then I don't know what to tell ya except... Wow.

There are 2 ct stores in saskatoon one sells firearms and the guy who oversees it actually has his rpal I belive. also it was the stores discression to sell firearms. Would you wanna send a bunch of 18 year old to get a pal and then have them leave the fall after they graduate. But all the sks rifles have bayonets there was a m305 there. theres a jr carbine sitting right under all the gps' . And if you want somthing they will try to order it for you.

Actually, the one on Grandview highway just west of Skeena street sells firearms and ammo. The counter is tucked waaay in the corner of the hunting section. I bought a box of 12 guage target loads, and I thought I was gonna get a cavity search as I was "escorted" to the cashier.

We are very fortunate here in Winnipeg to have such a gem as the Leila Ave. Canadian Tire. I have had nothing but excellent customer service from them. Mike the firearms manager is awesome and all of the other staff I have dealt with when he is not available obviously have been positively influenced by his leadership given the professional and courteous way they treated me. It has come full circle, 40 years ago this was the type of service I got at CT and they sold hundreds back then too. Kudos to Mike and team at the Leila Ave. Canadian Tire. They are a credit to the corporation and other the greater firearms community. It is only because of this experience. That I have once again started shopping at CT...and for more than just guns. Had not done so for close to 20 Years.

By the way, I have a after market stock and didn't want to ditch my bayonet so I made a cut for it to fit. Does anyone notice if having a bayonet on effects the accuracy of the rifle and would you recommend taking it off for that purpose?

Then why do they escort you to the till for a $5 tin of pellets? Loss of profit margins? Hand tools aren't all that cheap but they don't escort you to the till for those do they? Profit margins have little to do with it. If its firearm related you will be escorted to the till regardless of cost. Not only that but any ammunition sales weather its .22 or .177 pellets, they put it in a thick bag that says !!!!!!! OMG!!!!AMMUNITION!!!!!!!! on it, put a lock on it for christ sake and then escort you to the till.

Pellets are only sold to 18+ and are in the showcase. Policy is that all locked items are escorted.
Certain tools that experience high shrink are locked up and escorted at my CT. Price does not always dictate escorts. Its the sku shrink analysis that determines that. No ct store here uses the labeled bag for escort that you mentioned either. Also remember that not every ct store is the same and locked/escorted merchandise is purely up to the store owner.

Our local CT's do escort you to the cash but no locked bags...i just carried it in my hand and the cashier put it in a normal CR plastic bag after she scanned it.

The rifle is designed to be fired with the bayonet on and extended. Soviet infantry back in the day had their bayonets extended all the time except the armoury. Other Soviet troops did not but they also did not get much shooting time as they are technical types. A new stock will change the shooting characteristics, bore sight it, then shoot it in to zero. Honestly, IMO and experience, if you are ditching the stock, ditch the bayonet, we have had very little opportunity in modern warfare to use a bayonet (other than opening the odd can) despite alot of training on them.

Yeah I noticed that even the Maglite flashlights are locked up at my local CT. But the .177 pellets in the zipper-locking "Ammunition" bag didn't impress me at all.
