A quick search of the forums revealed nothing, but something I just stumbled upon from a small startup trying to make a rifle chassis for the SKS. It looks like they've prototyped a unit with a 3D printer and intend to crowdsource funding to make their design a reality. I'm not affiliated with these guys what-so-ever, but thought it was an interesting idea. Here's to hoping it sees the light of day as an aluminum bodied stock as it looks it was intended to be.

The photos certainly look interesting!

More Info
The SKS is a proven, affordable, and durable semi-automatic rifle using the common 7.62 x 39 cartridge. Millions of these rifles have been made throughout Europe and Asia, and many have found their way to North America.

Modern technology has almost completely sidestepped this rifle design. It was eclipsed as a military rifle with the arrival of the AK-47, which also garnered much of the interest from shooting enthusiasts and engineers. The AK-47, along with the AR-15 design, has benefitted most from aftermarket upgrades. A wide range of custom features have been designed to tailor these rifles to the tastes of the shooter. Now, thanks to development from Pearce Armory, many of these same features can finally be used on the more affordable SKS platform.

Pearce Armory is proud to announce the launch of the Integral Lower Stock (ILS) platform for the SKS. It uses the best components available on the market to bring together one of the most advanced replacement chassis in the market. Now your SKS rifle can take advantage of the benefits offered by:

 AR-15 Mil Spec Triggers
 AR-15 Stocks
 AR-15 Grips
 AR-15 Bolt Catches
 STANAG AR-15 mags
 Integral Picatinny Scope Rail

Comparable piston-driven rifle systems with just some these capabilities typically cost more than $1,000, and may not have all of these features. With this system, a rifle and chassis is roughly $700 (Canadian), and the chassis comes ready to run as-is, or it can accept the aftermarket components of your choice.

Ryan Pearce, developer of the Pearce Armoury ILS, explains how this innovative chassis system came to be:
“About 2 years ago, I bought my first SKS rifle. Like many new SKS owners, I searched the aftermarket for upgrades to improve it’s accuracy, reliability, cartridge capacity and ease of magazine reloading. I could never find exactly what I wanted, so I began researching the dimensions of the SKS and learned that I could integrate what I wanted to it, if I created an all-new chassis. It was then that I started Pearce Armoury to develop modern technology solutions for the SKS rifle.
“I have created a one-time buy option for the SKS, the Integral Lower Stock. You can now get your hands on essentially the only non-restricted, gas piston-driven rifle capable of using 10-round LAR/ XCR-L 7.62 x 39 pistol magazines in Canada.”

This Canadian-made DIY option will make your SKS more accurate, safer, more ergonomic, and most importantly, completely customizable to the shooter. This permanent rifle modification will give you options and capabilities that simply are not available on any other platform anywhere.
Beyond the functional improvements, the ILS chassis also improves serviceability. The chassis features a Tri-Rail fore stock that stay permanently attached to the rifle. With the removal of two pins, the entire lower can be dropped (similar to the AR design). Pull one rear pin, and the whole rifle opens up for cleaning. This makes the ILS-modified SKS incredibly easy to field strip and clean.

The SKS has always been known as one of the most reliable semi-auto rifles ever made, and the addition of the Pearce Armoury ILS will only improve this distinction while adding the ability to personalize the weapon.

By the time you factor in the cost of a mag adapter and Forend as well as aftermarket stock that you would have to buy if your creating your own tacticool Sks the $800 price tag isn't so bad. Not to mention this looks a hell of a lot better and better made than anything out on the aftermarket for the Sks. I think this will do well and even better if they can get production and source of material To be less expensive. And yeah total cost would be well over $1000 with a grip and butstock ect. But other rifles in that range would include a bare bones vz58 with no goodies or a kel tec su16, it would be a good competitor and best part is if You need parts or shoot out the barrel just buy a new Sks and pop it in cheap and easy

These guys need to be on here pushing this, regular updates and pics will generate the interest and pre orders required.

Wow. That looks interesting. Bolt release on the lower receiver and just saw a vid a non-duckbill mag inserted.

Well you should bite the bullet and sign up with CGN so you can share your product and ideas with us without
Getting your pee pee spanked by the GODs or I meant mods. Not everyone is keen to facebook. They may ask a lot to be a member but this is the number 1 gun forum in Canada with the most experienced guys so good or bad you'll get lots of exposure and hopefully the funds will come rolling in. I'm excited to see what your cooking up!!!!!

you must not have much experience with the Sabertooth, or didnt read up much on the ILS, only the ILS uses an AR-15 trigger, AR-15/XCR-L Pistol mags, AR-15 bolt catch, AR-15 grips and stocks. while the sabortooth is just grips and stocks.

I was referring to the looks more than anything. Seems like a great idea that may fix alot of ergonomic issues with the SKS, and I think you should definitely keep developing and promoting it; But concerning my taste personally, All the western technology just dosent suit combloc image I expect from my red rifles.

I second Warren's opinion: why an AR-15 look on a Russian cold war era rifle?

Perhaps you got this all wrong, Pearce... maybe you'd get a lot more success (and be able to get parts a lot cheaper) by making your stock AK-like. Anyone here with an RPAL can get their hands on a restricted AR-15, but very few will ever own an AK variant. Let's not forget that there are also many factory rifles that mimic the AR-15 style and are non-restricted.

The SKS will never have the precision, handling and weight of a real AR-15 anyway, whereas a lot of us would jump at the opportunity of acquiring an AK-style "lower" and corresponding furniture for our Russkie SKS's! If you're gonna dress it up, you might as well dress it up as something that you can't own in its' original form.

Just saying...
