A quick search of the forums revealed nothing, but something I just stumbled upon from a small startup trying to make a rifle chassis for the SKS. It looks like they've prototyped a unit with a 3D printer and intend to crowdsource funding to make their design a reality. I'm not affiliated with these guys what-so-ever, but thought it was an interesting idea. Here's to hoping it sees the light of day as an aluminum bodied stock as it looks it was intended to be.
The photos certainly look interesting!

The SKS is a proven, affordable, and durable semi-automatic rifle using the common 7.62 x 39 cartridge. Millions of these rifles have been made throughout Europe and Asia, and many have found their way to North America.
Modern technology has almost completely sidestepped this rifle design. It was eclipsed as a military rifle with the arrival of the AK-47, which also garnered much of the interest from shooting enthusiasts and engineers. The AK-47, along with the AR-15 design, has benefitted most from aftermarket upgrades. A wide range of custom features have been designed to tailor these rifles to the tastes of the shooter. Now, thanks to development from Pearce Armory, many of these same features can finally be used on the more affordable SKS platform.
Pearce Armory is proud to announce the launch of the Integral Lower Stock (ILS) platform for the SKS. It uses the best components available on the market to bring together one of the most advanced replacement chassis in the market. Now your SKS rifle can take advantage of the benefits offered by:
AR-15 Mil Spec Triggers
AR-15 Stocks
AR-15 Grips
AR-15 Bolt Catches
STANAG AR-15 mags
Integral Picatinny Scope Rail
Comparable piston-driven rifle systems with just some these capabilities typically cost more than $1,000, and may not have all of these features. With this system, a rifle and chassis is roughly $700 (Canadian), and the chassis comes ready to run as-is, or it can accept the aftermarket components of your choice.
Ryan Pearce, developer of the Pearce Armoury ILS, explains how this innovative chassis system came to be:
“About 2 years ago, I bought my first SKS rifle. Like many new SKS owners, I searched the aftermarket for upgrades to improve it’s accuracy, reliability, cartridge capacity and ease of magazine reloading. I could never find exactly what I wanted, so I began researching the dimensions of the SKS and learned that I could integrate what I wanted to it, if I created an all-new chassis. It was then that I started Pearce Armoury to develop modern technology solutions for the SKS rifle.
“I have created a one-time buy option for the SKS, the Integral Lower Stock. You can now get your hands on essentially the only non-restricted, gas piston-driven rifle capable of using 10-round LAR/ XCR-L 7.62 x 39 pistol magazines in Canada.”
This Canadian-made DIY option will make your SKS more accurate, safer, more ergonomic, and most importantly, completely customizable to the shooter. This permanent rifle modification will give you options and capabilities that simply are not available on any other platform anywhere.
Beyond the functional improvements, the ILS chassis also improves serviceability. The chassis features a Tri-Rail fore stock that stay permanently attached to the rifle. With the removal of two pins, the entire lower can be dropped (similar to the AR design). Pull one rear pin, and the whole rifle opens up for cleaning. This makes the ILS-modified SKS incredibly easy to field strip and clean.
The SKS has always been known as one of the most reliable semi-auto rifles ever made, and the addition of the Pearce Armoury ILS will only improve this distinction while adding the ability to personalize the weapon.
