SKS confession

I have a SKS-D that I purchased new. I put a few (50ish) rounds through it and I dont like it..... If there were zombies on the streets.. it would be the last thing that I grab from the closit.

Hans

ps-anyone want a SKS-D?

As it happens I am thinking about getting one.

I actually don't find the SKS that inaccurate at all. I have an SKS-D and I can get constant 3" groups at 100 yards. I mean, if it was more than $200 new than it wouldn't really be worth it, but since it's cheep and you KNOW it's not gonna be that accurate than IMO it's a good buy for some cheep fun.

Love mine and I'd never sell it. I owned a bunch of expensive guns but I got rid of them all. They were to costly to dress and feed. My SKS on the other hand is a low maintenance girl who always puts her rounds within three inches or less, from 100 yards.

I am going to buy a second one one of these days, just for spare parts.

Is that with iron sights declan? Is yours a russian or a chinese??

Mine is an SKS-D thus it's Chinese. I am getting three inch groups or less with iron sights, from a 100 yards, sitted, with elbows on the table. I don't get fliers either.

The groups are very consistent as I always use the same ammo; Norinco, silver box. The only work I did to it was to put an ATI Draganov stock on it and fine tune the fit. I would choose this gun as my MBR over any of the AR's I used to own.

Of course, it's a matter of preference and I am not knocking AR's. Shoot what you like and don't make other people feel bad for not using "brand name" guns. Only snobs cut down "the quality" of other people's kit.

What is the going price for a "good" one ?

A new chinese SKS costs $135 at Lever, and is in my opinion superior to the "D" models (reloads faster, has last shot hold open)

Now for a good one, you need to go Yugo if you want the best. They run $320 plus tax ship when in stock, still dirt cheap.

I get honest to god 2" 100 yard groups without trouble with my Yugo and Norc silver box, hell if it was scoped it would be even better. I've had 'real' guns that shoot worse...

I know that the Yugos are the best quality SKS's, and will probably get one in the future, but right now I want one that takes AK mags and as far as I'm aware the SKS D is the only one that does this.

Be aware, if you haven't played with an SKS-D, they look neat, but are utterly a 'looks only' proposition. The regular SKS loads much faster off stripper clips, is generally more reliable, and has a last shot bolt hold open, which the SKS-D does not.

If you want something AK'esque, I would highly recommend the CZ-858 over the SKS-D. If you want an SKS, I'd go with the real deal as it works better, and I'd go Yugo.

Just my small change...

There (all) garbage!!! Your not shooting your daddy's .22 anymore, ya the ammo is cheap and the rifles cheap aswell, I would step up to the plate and get something that's worth the money. Colt A-15, M1 or the nation match M-14, if you can't afford to shoot your rilfe then it's time sell it and buy air rilfe.
Out!

I am aware of all your points and already have a CZ 58, but there is method in my madness:)

Hmmm airgun or high powered rifle?
Can a airgun pierce though bulletproof vest?
Can a airgun blow a deers head off?
Can a airgun make your ears hurt?
LOL

You sir, have just proved yourself to have no idea what you are talking about. :)

I had an SKS-D. I sold it, I couldn't hit anything with that damn gun. I have a couple cz-858s and love em. Still uses the same cheap ammo, and find my cz's easily outshoot my old sks.

my SKS-D would not reliably hit a piece of 8x11 paper at 50 yards. I was hitting a 12" steel gong at 300m with my 858 yesterday (30% hits)

Some of you may have very accurate sks's, but mine wasn't. I am forever turned off by those things.

Most of my Targets are within 50-70 meter's and back on April 2nd I turned a 4x4 by 5 inch thick slab of cement into Gravel. My SKS works just fine. A Clean rifle shoots better, why do you think all these competition shooters clean inbetween matches? To cut the copper, carbon and lead fouling that will fill the rifiling and decrease accuracy.

I'm convinced on the 7.62x39 cartridge being a bad ass round. I'm thinking of a Mini-30
