SKS confession

Almost bought a Russian mfg SKS today... never owned an SKS before... is the Russian one better than the Norc/Chinese ones?
I have both and the Russian is less "crude" than the Norinco. It still has lots of machine marks but does look better than the Norinco. In stock form I have not noticed any real difference in accuracy and they both go bang when you pull the trigger.
The Russian ones have more than doubled in value since I bought them though, don't think the Norinco's are going to appreciate much!!

Sorry but I have to disagree on that one. I too own both and I would never pay $300+ dollars for a Norinco SKS. The wood of the stock , quality of action and materials used in a Russian is way better than Chinese. The Russian definately weighs more and feels more sturdy. The weight also helps with accuracy. The Norcs I have had new out of the box (3) cannot compete accuracy wise with a Russian or Yugo without a muzzlebrake.

Not to my knowledge. If one were not averse to ordering parts on ebay, I'm sure you could find one on there. Last one I saw there was $69.99 US, not including shipping (which would probably run you $20 US) and before exchange, so expect to pay around $100 canadian by the time it gets to your door. Of course, I'm not advocating that you circumvent US export law, but they're definetely available :D
