Hi,
I just got a Weaver scope mount for my SKS, the one that replaces the dust-cover at the back.....
I am aware that it doesn't perfectly hold zero, but for my red dot, shooting corrosive ammo under100 yards, it will be just fine.
I was also aware that I will have to make it fit on my Russion SKS, how did you guys file it down. Power tool or traditional files? I have a bench grinder and a dremmel tool, but no larger hand files for that kind of task.
The other tip I could use, I removed the pin to replace the hand guard at the gas tube. The pin came out pretty good, took me just a few minutes with a punch. It's bent a bit now, can I reuse this pin or do I have to replace it? Where would I get a new one?

Thanks,

Kylo

Hmmm, guess I forgot the translation:

Здравствуй, Я только что получил сфера Уивер крепление для моих СКС, тот, который заменяет суперобложке на спине ..... Я знаю, что это не прекрасно провести нулю, но для моей красной точкой, стрельба коррозионного боеприпасы

i used hand file, then got it to fit and went, know what, im getting a magwedge....but i went to home depot and got some files and went to work man, take a little bit off, and fit check, again and again till it fit..

You can reuse that handguard pin, no problem. Matter of fact, you can use what you want there. Many have use a plain old nail. Personally, I'd return the scope mount. Been there, done that. If you're determined to use it, remove the takedown latch and tap the hole (with the mount in place) with 1/4-20 tap. Run a bolt through and your done. You'll still need to fit the front of that mount though. Hand file only. Dremel is too much...

Thanks!
Handguard pin is back in, that worked well.
For the scope mount, I'll get myself some hand files tomorrow and start working on it. Wasn't that expensive, if it doesn't work at all or I don't like it I just throw the old one back on.
Height seems OK though with the ATI Monte Carlo stock I just installed. Should be all completed in a few days, just in time to sight it in for hunting season.

It's cool to take the whole SKS apart, I even removed the fiiring pin to clean it. Good to know how your gun works!

Well, yes, you guys told me, and I had to expect it - and now I learned that lesson.
Filing down the scope mount worked great, now it fits! That means, I can mount it, and it just wiggles around on the gun, not solid at all. I don't even try to put a scope on that, reinstalled the original part and booked the $35 as a learning experience.......
Now - let's see how I get my red dot mounted on that SKS.
