Hi

I just opened the box to my SKS and started dissasembly. When I reached the trigger group I found HUGE ammount of rust on the main hammer spring. I can't even get the hammer to release when I pull the trigger. There was also ZERO cosmoline on the rifle. Where you would expect cosmoline to be instead there is sand, dirt and rocks. I'm also having a hell of a time removing the gas tube assembly.

Should I go through the trouble of returning to cabelas? the box says 30 days for returns?

I would return it as well ; the quality of SKSs has really taken a turn for the worse in the past year or so . To bad you cannot hand pick from Cabelas as it sounds like this rifle was mail ordered . Would you have to pay return shipping ; and how much ?

Not to mention that the inside of the stock was littered with white mold EVERYWHERE.

Strangely enough the BBQ finish that everyone laughs about was actually overall in great shape and less displeasing then I expected. The bore was also 10/10 condition lolllll go figure these Russian guns.

Cabelas will take it back, they usually send the return postagecwith their guns but call first to get the return info! North Sylva removes the Cosmo and the guns rust up fast, probably because they don't oil them afterwards, it's a shame, I would rather have the Cosmo!

I purshased one about 6months ago, touted as "super grade" had an issue with it, and while they agreed with me about my complaint, they wouldn't rectify it. I did get a $25 gift card but had to do a fair amount of complaining to get it. I don't think they stand behind their surplus stuff so much
Just my experience.

Is this SKS blued , or is it a BBQ paint special ?
The Parkerizing ( your BBw paint special) can be really nice and I have a few parked sks with awesome new springs and trigger groups along with new barrels, great if you want a shooter, I believe these rusting issues are from the importer or the seller over seas, removed the Cosmo with something akin to brake cleaner and not oiling the rifle afterwards!

How do you explain the dirt, sand and rocks? I think most of the crap was coming out of the butt of the rifle in the trap door compartment. Someone had dunked it in a swamp and that was not caught during refurbishing? That doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

The quality/safety check seal was borken on my box. I think someone took it to the swamp then returned it to cabelas who sold it to me in turn.

Grab a 4 lbs sledge hammer, your rifle and take a walk to the corner of your lot. Once there, deploy and fix the bayonet and invert the rifle. With much deliberation, drive the rifle into the ground utilizing the 4 lbs hammer you've brought. Then nail laterals to the stock, you have the beginnings of a really interesting fence there.

And I would bet you can clean the crud off and be g2g
Maybe, that looks like deep rust though, I have had that light dusty film on the springs before but not like that, you can probably get a spring but I would try to get it returned first and talk to the manager too! They depend on online sales and if you let them know a lot of CGN folks are waiting to find out how this goes down they may treat you better!
