Well im quite glad a lot of the snow is gone compared to what we had . This range is literaly in the back of someones yard just outa town and 10 mins from my place . The guy was a gun smith and used it to test guns after fixing them i guess . and people go there by word of mouth , just leave a donation at the gate . kinda quiet most of the time . there are boards at 25/50 and 100 yd there is a 200yd spot as well .I shot my SKS there today .heavyBullet said:Wow Ianwd, wish we had the snow you have, so warm here I cannot even get the hockey rink goin.
Ike said:Out of curiosity can everyone post what factory their SKs is from and if barrel is screwed or pinned? Some say the pinned are less accurate so let's let's see if there is any validity in that theory.
I was using a triangle 136, triangle 26 and refurb that had the factory information milled off (old/mid era parts).
Cheers

You got to remember this rifle is a close combat type rifle designed for uneducated peasants to shoot.(Probably why the gun is so popular in canada) . ,and or spit lots of lead in the general direction of the enemy .Ike said:Should we be cocky and challenge other 'accurate' milsurp rifles to a head to head match?

Hard to compare with a longer barreled Enfield or mauser for instance . From what i have seen so far here is most people are getting at least a 6 inch group at 100yds , which is good enough to knock someone over at 200.
But against other semi type carbines could work. without all the Bling and just open sights. That should get the Black and greens going.

Group #1 - Handloads, .87 inches. (I can usually do better)
#2 - Guatemalan 55 gr, 2.43 inches (opened badly by a flyer)
#3 - SS 109, 2.7 inches.
#4 - Wolf polymer, 6.1 inches.
#5 - Blackhills Mk 262, 1.88 inches.
Who knows how accurate the sks can be. If you compare the groups here in the honor match which are being done with cheap surplus ammo to groups achieved with a super trick AR-15 shooting cheap suplus ammo the Sks does all right.

Final plug for my contribution to the honor match. I was shown up way to fast the first time.
