I am full of great ideas ain't I?

I have a project SKS on the way. It will most likely be nothing anyone has seen before as it's a "what if" design other than "practical". I am in the process of designing a custom flush mounted PU scope base; thumb screw will be placed at 90 degrees instead of 45 via pivot armature. Been quoted a good price for machining (you got to love small town Sask) further updates when complete. I am also doing some custom stock work; re-profiling the grip, adding a detachable cheek weld (strap, screw, or dowel). I will also be adding a steel wedge to the front of the stock that connects to the barrel band. The threaded end of the barrel with be secured by a clamp under the sight base which will also tie into the cross bolt. (design in not finalized, as it might be deemed unnecessary) The rear of the receiver will be screwed to the stock via the trigger group spring hole.

After all this, I want to install a muzzle brake. But, then the bayonet is useless and will have to be removed. So I fathomed the idea to modify the lug to attach a SVT-40 bayonet. Don't as why, but in my mind it makes sense. I understand that a customized flash hider will have to be used to get the appropriate length. The problem is, I do not have a SVT-40, nor a SVT-40 bayonet. So, who does? alongside a SKS. Will it work?

Svt-40 bayonets cost 150-250$ so you may want to rethink that, your project sounds expensive allready. How about an AK bayonet they cost about 20-50$. You can get some Mauser bayonets for pretty cheap (30-50$) if you like the longer bayonet look but getting that to work would be harder i think.

I thought about AK bayonets at first. But the work to adapt to a SKS will take more modification. I will be getting an SVT-40 eventually... and bayonet. Right now I am impatient to see weather or not this will work. I have been looking around for a SVT-40 barrel sleeve, but they are elusive. The cost if my modifications are relatively low. Like I said, I have some bargain machinists connections. The kind of guys that like to tinker about and are up for a new project/challenge.

All I need is some comparative input from people who own both an SKS and SVT-40 with a bayonet just to see the plausibility.

I heard somewhere that any barrel attachements might change barrel harmonics which leads to reduced accuracy. So before modifying the bayonet lug you might want to get more info about that to make sure that your modification won't make your SKS less accurate.

Dont blow your self up.:onCrack:

Use an FN flash hider & bayonet (they are cheap)

There are 10 posts in this thread you created (not including this one)
5 of the posts are yours . The three others above what you posted
So just who are the snobs you are referring too ?
You want to know what a Lee Enfield is going for .
Look in the EE :p

Is this reminiscent of my Igman thread... go troll elsewhere.

Sorry, but it has to be all Russian, cost? Not a factor.

Also, to you snobs. How much are you paying for a Lee Enfield?

I am referring to how people puke on the SKS when they can. "It's cheap, not worth your money." Seems quite familiar to the LE. Yet prices have jumped substantially over the last five years. (spare me the x39 bull sh!t, we all know you are a crap shot)

So, the question remains. How does the SVT-40 bayonet fair with the SKS?

Who in this thread said that?

As for your question, I don't think it's ever been done before, so you probably won't get any decent answers. If the guy will machine you the part go for it.

I know you already said you looked at the AK bayonet, but have you thought about a Vz 58 bayonet?

Are you even old enough to own a gun ? :runaway:

lol, my apologies. I was a bit drunk yesterday and aggravated by arrogant answers.

Thanks for the constructive suggestions from those who don't find it necessary to insult me.

And yes, I am old enough to own firearms. Been shooting since I was young. just never made a life out of it. I also do not need to explain myself to anyone.

Now back to my impractical idea. I will be removing the bayonet anyways. I just thought it would be unique to have it modified to accept the SVT-40 bayonet. I understand the opposition to this idea, but it's my money. All of the suggestions are great.. but not what I am looking for. I am trying to stay period specific. Don't ask why. It is the way I am.

I think it is time to just buy a SVT-40 with the 10 port muzzle brake along with a bayonet.

Well that explain it even if you don't feel you need too.
