That's the nice thing about the Weaver Converta mount you can use different configurations to mount it to the SKS receiver, unlike other mounts. The only concern I can see is running out of adjustment on your red dot to obtain zero. Have you sighted it in yet?
Well, initially, I had it set up wrong, with the convertamount too far forward to use stripper clips. During this time, I tried to zero it and you are correct, I ran out of adjustment vertically on the red dot. The red dot needs to sit a tad higher in the front than in the back (in my case at least).
So, I took 4 hacksaw blades and cut my own weaver notch, except I didn't notch it all the way, I sawed about a 1/2 notch. So, the depth on the front notch isn't as much as the depth on the rear notch. This gives the front end of the red dot the extra adjustment I need. It's basement zeroed now. I.E., when I look at something at the other end of the basement thru my irons, then look at the dot, they are at the same POI. My irons hit 2 inches low at 25M so I have my dot set high correspondingly. I've yet to zero 100% at the range though. I'll let you know how it goes.
nice work greg, it looks a little high though. Is the forward inletting and holes for mounting it further forward, or something else?
It isn't too high. Kind of a "chin-weld" thing. Plus there's no kick on the 7.62x39 anyways

As for the repeatability of a cheek weld vs. a chin weld, I'm not too concerned since it's a red dot set up as of now. I'll get a raised cheek pad in the future if it bothers me too much. Plus it gives me just enough clearance to get the dust cover off for cleaning, and I can see my irons perfectly, which I like. I wanted my irons because they're Williams Firesights, and:

As for the forward holes, the mount was too far forward initially which blocked stripper clips so I moved it back. Any ideas for pluggin em?
