SKS prices in Canada

Interesting thread... I've been in business for a few years. I don't think I'd ever taunt my customers with an I told you so thread, say I'm out of the product and you should have bought them when they were cheap.

But hey its your business thread, you can do what you want.... but I have to tell you, I've never done business with Westrifle and this thread doesn't inspire me to.

They're great to do business with. They will go the extra mile. For example, Canada Post managed to snap the stock of a beautiful SVT-40 I bought from them. These guys drove out a replacement to my house!

I don't see it as taunting. He warned, he was attacked for doing so. Now he's basically saying that it was no BS...

I remember seeing them selling for $700.00-$800.00 in the US last year.

Quite possibly, but America "came close" to another assault weapons restriction. So panic buying took over since John Smith needed to protect his 2nd Amendment rights.

Even my Canadian-born, anti-firearm, senior citizen parents who live in TN were considering buying a gun in show of support for the 2nd amendment.

I think that for $700 - $800 I could probably build someone a few SKS's just from the spare parts I have laying around from all the SKS I've owned. lol. Should have gone into business State-side...

Doesn't seem to be a taunt, but I guess you can take the coment any way you want. All he is saying is may 25 is the earliest for export . I have dealt with westrifle and they are awesome! To everybody say that they wouldn't pay over $200 for a sks, what can you buy (semi auto ,new production and not a 22 or sks) for under $600? I love the sks, it is a tank!

I bought a good number of Russian rifles from these guys and always got Quality and value for my money, they said mosins would go up in at least the short term and they did ( they used to sell shooter grade, still nice, mosins for $110) perhaps the sks will too, or people will buy more Chinese. The guys at Westrifle are ex Russians/Czech I believe, they don't mince words, similar to Putin ( nicer guys than Putin though)! It is their heritage to tell it like they see it and people have to take it that way!
Other companies in Canada still have sks, not sure how many/quality or price so time will tell if the shortage occurs! Westrifle is telling you to get SKS Now, and you can't get them from Westrifle, so I do not understand anyone saying they are trying to jack up prices,, they are sending you to the competition, trying to save cgner's money ( possibly)!

Just picked up a nice unissued Russian SKS at my local Canadian Tire - even got some Canadian Tire money!

Looks solidly built. An SKS expert friend of mine will be joining me on Sunday for the first shoot!

Well, you can buy the Ruger Ranch 762x39 for close to a grand or the SKS 762x39 for $170....and lots of money left over for 1,000 rounds of ammo, gas& tires for the truck, new work boots, a wild night out, a new vacume for the wife LOL....on and on. I think an SKS is the best Bang for your buck.

he wasn't taunting , hes was just answering questions from his concern customers .

1. there is no advantage to telling you to buy now cos he has none to sell .
2. buying from a dealer doesn't help him bcos that dealer may not have bought from him
3. his dealers who wants to order more now will have to go to his competitor , remember he has none.
4. he received a notice of a price increase .

price were expected to rise anyway , just look at the falling Candollar?

you guys got to learn from history , buy it when its cheap and plentiful. several decades ago LE was in the same position as the Russian SKS , people bubbaed them to sporters, sounds familiar? now they are paying an arm for nice wood . last month on EE a nos in wrap was sold for $1200 .

This man speaks the truth. Dad got a very large shock when he went shopping for an 1894. Now excuse me while I go downtown find a nice laminate SKS to stack away in my safe with the others.

Since Obama just banned a lot of Russian imports the other day where do you think those guns that were slated for US import will be going ?
The only time we will see a SKS shortage is when the RCMP find a way to prohibit them .

I am not here to scary you guys. I am here to warn you. I am sending you to competition who has not raised the prices yet. All I am saying buy it now. What Sks should be priced at is the market and supply will do over time. Sks in Canada were sold for 350 dollars 5 years ago. Then supply was flooded and it went down.
Now the problem now is that the government in Ukraine raising the prices. Everyone who buys them there will have increase on their cost. Which is going to be passed to consumers.
Second factor that plays a big effect is USA dollar is up from 1.05 to 1.13 you pay 8 cents more for every dollar that you spend overseas. That means if you bought rifle for 100 dollars now it is 113 dollars. You paid 10 (13 cad) dollars to transport it now it is 126 dollars. Then you get taxed on 126 dollars 5 % (6.3 dollars) makes it 132.3 now you add duty 7% 141.56 cost to importer. Now how much profit he puts it is his decision.
If you think Sks are not going up then it is your own decision.
Also yesterday Ukraine signed association with EU. UN first demand was to destroy all Russian firearms and equipment. What happens to supply when it happens? LE enfield story sounds familiar again.
Also to those who think that this thread is for me to mock them I can tell you that when I post that I do not have Sks is because I do not want hundred emails saying can I buy one. I do not have any in stock. I have only 1949 models which is more expensive then standard Sks.

.

the common denominator is they don't make them anymore , they haven't for over 60 years, unlike the Chinese SKS they have the tooling in storage , Russian have long donated the tooling .

LE were selling for $25 in the early 70s , I remember seeing it at the pawn shop when I was real little , my older relative reminded me about it later. today they will for $600 a 30x increase , that's like buyering a house in Vancouver for $30,000 and selling it for $750,000. lol.

Thank you Al, you are a good man and West Rifle has great service. You are correct about the EU and UN. The world is changing very rapidly now, the latest incident with Ukraine/Russia is just the start of more to come, including UN control of the internet (enjoy our freedoms while we can, things are going to change very soon). God bless you,
Reuven

p.s. Those unissued Russian SKS you sold me and some of my friends aren't readily available, just 1 year since you advised us, thanks.

So, I get it. The Run of SKS's could be done. But what do the experts say about our other commonly loved milsurps. Stuff like Mosins, SVT's, TT's and what ever else.

as usual someone tries to pass along some info and gets bashed for it, some things never change, and the sks naysayers, if you dont like em why would you read a thread called " SKS prices in canada" in the first place, seriously... go buy a real gun??? is this for real, if you cant have a ton of fun with an sks you probably dont know how to have fun, go strap your benelli over your shoulder and walk around in the woods for hours between shots if thats what makes you happy, anyone i know that owns an sks loves it, if you hate sks rifles you should wear a shirt that says " F.U.D.D."

I got two Russian sks. Paid $150 for each. One I put in a tapco stock just to shoot and have fun with. The other is in the corner of my safe, taken out and admired frm time to time. The way things are heading in Canada the day will come when you will value your semi auto sks.

PS. Everyone should have one rifle the government doesn't know about. SKS is a great candidate for that rifle
