SKS Prototype stock (update 02-02-2014) post 244

i look for all the possible method but like some says maybe the best will be to make one in PLA to have a model and make one in cast aluminum

so if someone no a shop where they doing that give me their name , casted aluminium will be fast and cheap to make after the first model will be ok

price is influence by number and the method of fabrication

Holy damn 003, I had no idea they were that expensive, my bad.

Tell you what though, come mid or end September my 3D printer will arrive along with my extrusion system, if you can edit your design so as to make the pieces no longer than 10 inches a pop, I'll print it off for you at cost, you just have to pay shipping.

I know that will be far cheaper than going through one of these guys, that's just nuts.

Why go to all the trouble designing a stock to fit an SKS when you can design a whole new rifle ?

because i still dont have my machine shop still looking for a damn machinist job too for like a month , when you cant do yourself the thing is always expensive to create something because you have to pay someone else to do it , but your idea may give me some idea so i may design something using the part of a sks but in a new receiver frame , without a job i have some spare time to think about it.

ok thank for the offer , like i say in the last post i'm looking too to created one with a removable handguard that will be close to 10inch or less , put the piece in diagonal in the printer and you can make bigger piece like 11-12 inch

me too i was not thinking that the 3D printing shop was expensive like that seem to be less expensive to buy the 3d printer and make it yourself

cool thread, so...... how much is one of them 3D printers again?

Well I paid about 600 for mine with shipping, but then I also bought a filament extruder for about 440 to make my own filament, which makes sense because filament costs about 50 bucks a kilo with the shipping and taxes.
With the extruder it should be about half or quarter the cost, if this were America I could make it at a 10th the cost, but Canada just doesn't have the demand for plastic pellets that the U.S. has it'd seem.

Consider crowd sourcing (kickstarter.com being one example). A good business plan is a must on these sites though. You'd need at least 4-5 prototypes made and tested before you arrive at the final design, then figure out the costs of producing a few batches, then logistics behind storage and distribution.

I do really hope to see one of these for sale one day though! Keep up the good work :)

I have some idea , that will make many choice and look , i just have to make the first one to check if the sks hold in with out any movement, soon guys for now it just a question of money

i have looked to do a removable handguard to be possible to print in a 10inch 3dprinter and it will not be possible the receiver of the sks is longer than 10

no modification a this moment

for the guys who dont like the square handguard my next idea may be good for you i have to think about it because i want to improve my design , something is never perfect , only when you says it !

for this website it seem a good idea they have a Canadian one will look at this it may be a great option to begin with

I think it would be far easier to design something completely new.

maybe but you can always retake some part of a design , the sks is strong and reliable , like most of the soviet weapon , maybe one thing that can be redraw on the sks is the ejector and adding a left charging handle all in a new receiver who will accept xcr-l mag , but designing a new rifle is not a easy job , you have to think alot for many thing, just the triggers system is a hard thing, with the damn law that thing must not be easily convertible it why if i got further with this i need to base my design on something that is already approved ,

i have probably the skill to draw a prototype , i have many idea it just to take the good one and assemble the thing

Nearly all firearms incorporate features from earlier designs. The fact is that some things can not be improved, if it ain't broke then don't fix it. "with the damn law that thing must not be easily convertible" If that really were the case we would not be allowed SKS's or anything else come to think of it.

Dad003,,so what your saying is that you need $1500.00 to get a prototype made? maybe you should approach one of the fine dealers that sponsor this board and suggest some type of business arrangement,,

He might as well borrow the money from a bank, then when the orders flood in the profit will be all his.

in the cheap abs is 750$ but the one at 1500 is in better material soo probably the best thing to do, after that you have to buy the after market parts , grip , stock ,buffer tube , rail and a sks is maybe more like 2000$ for the first one after this if all work good , will be able to look to a company for molding them , after this the mould will be the most expensive thing , will be good to run a small batch , the price will depend of the number and material , the first one is the expensive one .

And for Mark Williams and your suggestion of a new rifle i'm studying that , i have put some idea on paper , after looking a some blue prints of ar15,fal , ak , and many other, taking the best of each gun , will try to draw something that will be simple , reliable and light , i was looking at some gun for the bolt the VZ58 is probably the most simplistic of all i have looked just have to redraw the bolt to put the ejector on the side , will put all the part in a lower and a upper , the field trip may be like an AR but the mechanic will be very different , i may take some days before i put that on the computer , it a very complex project

nobody become rich for working for the other , only if you work for yourself

have you made one ? Make it, test it IE shoot it. Let us really see it then I would be more inclined.

nope i dont have made one but soon , when i will have one , i will post some pic and be sure that i will test it and anybody in the Edmonton area who want to try it will be able to try it with their ammo .
