SKS Questions ** Range Update pg 3 **

**UPDATE**

Just had an awesome trip at the outdoor range with the sks this weekend. Went through 960 rounds with a buddy. Only modification done was the Neit Arms prototype red fiberoptic rear sights. Apart from that.. completely stock.

Here are a few pictures ( BlackBerry are smaller and crappier, DSLR pics are bigger and much cleaner )

End of day we walked out about 15 yards from the bench and did some sitting and prone shooting and using the bayonet as mono-pod ( not pictured )

All in all, was hitting the 100 yard target a few times per five round turns. Average was about 2 times of 5 shots. Best all day was 4 of 5... couldnt repeat it all weekend though. Shooting prone with bayonet as monopod, best was 3 of 5. I only had three FTF all day...not bad considering 957 worked flawlessly.

In terms of future modifications, first on the list is a trigger job ( anyone know a g'smith in the GTA that could do this? ) then maybe a monte carlo stock. No need for scope mount or scope, keeping iron sights as is.. besides, kinda takes the fun out of shooting a 1950's rifle if its scoped ( imo that is :dancingbanana: )

Shoulder is a bit sore today...but its totally worth it !

Nice , im also debating getting an sks , but i really want a cz858 first . Funny thing is you can barley see the targets from 100 what are those steel plates?

And finally i see someone else who likes to wear gloves .. i like to shoot with gloves and i always get made fun of .

What did you think of it? I shot around a 100rds this weekend trying mine out again. I like it. Got the Williams site to stay on, thanks to a good helping of Crazy Glue. Paired together the make a good combo!

I had the same debate, I belong to this outdoor range but its a 3hr drive from my home, I only go up once every few months... so I couldnt justify spending an extra $5-600 more for a 858 ( although its a great rifle to shoot ) I'd rather spend the extra money on more ammo !!

I assume its steel, the plates are over 1.5" thick

I could care less if someone makes fun of me, hitting that target at 100 yards on iron sights speaks for itself ;) plus ..my hands sweat crazy amounts when I shoot... must be over-excitement:)

Loved it !! I've always liked fiberoptic sights on guns ( pistol, rifle..hell, even a shotgun ) i find it makes sighting much more consistent and.... easier

I'm not going to replace the front sight, however I may just use some a bright coloured nailpolish or whiteout on the post instead.

The iron sights are where it's at! I was so impressed the first time I went out with mine. At 100 yards was pretty fun, then we started at 330yd 24x24 plate and was hitting it 1/3 times! The rear sight adjustment works really well.

Something to keep in mind, the sks was designed to kill people on the battlefield, not snipe dear of anything like that. So the spread is always going to be there.

I was so amped to make my new sks into a tacticool looking gun, but decided against it, the nostalgic feel is more fun.
