Wanting to have a bit of fun with my sks. Bought a tapco stock and gen3 magwedge rail. Can't decide if I want a red dot or scene. The tacticool thing is fun and I have a place where i can shoot both long range and or as fast as I want.

Suggestions? Opinions? Experiences? Go!

Red dot aim point if you can afford it it's an sks if it was me a bushnell trs25 believe it or not there not terrible the good ones anyways

Sorry for answering the question, but some people can't use red dots because they see multiple red dots.
Try before you buy. If you had a mount that replaces the rear sight rather than the Magwedge, a small red dot allowing you to move the gas system takedown lever would be most convenient. If you have old eyes, a low power scope may help you to see the target. Otherwise a red dot will be fine, the TRS-25 is a common SKS choice.

Edit: some folks see something like this, except worse:

I've tried both a Red dot and various scopes on an SKS. I didn't like them and took them off. My eyes are not great anymore but I can still shoot better without them. I found them to be more of a contraption and in the way. The red dot was kind of ok, but when you put a rifle away for a few months the battery was dead, so what use is it when you need it and it doesn't work. THe Red dot didn't last very long in cold weather either, nor is it any more accurate at a distance. One of the problems with cheap Dot type optics is that you have a 6 moa dot on a target that is 100 yards away. I have better Dot optics, but it makes really poor sense to install a $600 Dot onto a $200 rifle. Another problem with Dots, is when you are doing some late night shooting with low light conditions, the intensity of the dot blinds you from seeing a low light target such as a coyote.

I played. I had fun, but I can shoot an SKS better without it.

Tech Sight 200, the rear aperture improves focus on the front post, making it easier for us old fogies.

This to me is more of a worthy expense on an SKS rifle, especially for shooters with old eyes.

THere was also another company that made a rear aperture sight that replaces onto the existing rear sight. Forgot the name of it but it was posted recently??

Other worthwhile things to look at are the replacement front sight beads, such as the glow type or Fire sights

The tech sight is a pain in the azz. You have to modify the rear take down pin, then you have to unbolt it to clean the rifle. The rear aperture sight is better and one type slides over the rear sight ladder

I was raised on a Lee Enfield No 4 Mark 1, then qual'd on FN C1, so got to appreciate the inherent accuracy of a peep behind the action.
I'll happily put up with the extra effort around the Tech Sight.
