SKS Stock. Which do you prefer?

Another vote for factory wood because once you buy a CZ 858 and never shoot your SKS again then you will have saved yourself some money.....:nest:

+1 on the factory stock with a butt pad. Had a Tapco on it and didn't add enough for me to spend the extra time to pull off the pistol grip every time I cleaned it. It is pretty though.

rocked a monty carlo stock for a bit, made the riffle much lighter bit better cheek weld. but the riffle kicked a lot more with the lighter stock.
Went back to a factory hardwood stock, I enjoy shooting it more with the heavy stock.

I ordered a Chinese military issue red fiberglass stock with the blade cut-out and matching handguard from SKSman. I hear they're lighter, strong, and moisture resistant -- a perfect compliment to my Arma-coated Russian. I'll post pics when I receive it.

couldn't agree with you more but still don't trash that purdy stock that you refinished. As some times wood and metal look real nice even more so with the amount of work you put into it.

Had a tapco on for a while, but back to factory now. Just love the metal butt plate. Was watching World at War dvd last night and thinking how the sks would have done in some of the battles.

My favourite stock for the SKS has not been made yet. imo a stock for the SKS is required that has a steel or aluminum tub like some of the newer stocks for the Remington 700. The rest would be laid up fibreglass, it would be heavy but a desireable stock. Why would I want such a stock? Just for the satisfaction of having one. The best custom made stock for the SKS I have seen anywhere was manufactured by one of our forum members, he made it in the image of an AK-47, and it was excellent!. :)

Edit: the Beech 59/66 stocks are very nice, I also think the Chinese red fibreglass ones are about the best non-wood SKS stocks you can find.

You want the sks to weight more still?
