Well, I was looking forward to a great day at the range today with my newly modified SKS. As this is the first firearm I have ever modified, I was quite excited. Nothing too crazy yet, I've changed the stock to a Tapco, added a muzzle brake, replaced the receiver cover with a NcStar SKS Tri-Mount and added a scope.
I finally got everything set-up on the range, loaded and made ready for my first shot with my new rifle.
Bang.....
Crack....
???????
I thought it sounded a little wierd and right away I noticed my slide was stuck all the way back and jammed. I dropped my mag. and made safe and upon inspection noticed a small crack in my new receiver cover and the slide was jammed back so hard I couldn't even knock it back out with a nearby piece of wood. (See Pics)
Has this happened to anyone else???? Did I somehow do something wrong when I fitted it??? Or does this just sound like a faulty cover???? It was a nice and tight fit (not too tight) and not loose.
When I got home I had to use a hammer to knock the slide back and found it was jammed on the underside of the small slide handle against the receiver cover. When I re-installed the original cover everything seems fine again. Guess I'll have to try and fire it this way now and see what happens.
