Sks vs ar15-10

Comes down to what you really want I guess. For me I want something nice to shoot something that takes optics and something that can shoot cheap rim fire ammo. Not saying an SKS cannot be used for hunting just saying a bolt is a better choice. Yeah Chinese 762 is cheap hopefully off shore cheap ammo never drys up.

Like I said I have had 3 of them just found my AR and tacticool 1022 are more fun and cheaper to shoot as I find I use my .22 conversion kit the most and once in awhile step up to .223.

Either way both are great platforms and reasonable to shoot, have fun and just pick one and enjoy.

Yes the .22 option is cool, for sure I just bought 3, 522's, so I am good there, bu the option to practice or plink with your system, and to add optics etc. is great, if only they weren't restricted, Iwould be all over one, still an AR-10 in .308 or if possible 7MM-08!!
 
One good reason to buy an AR...

For everyone in the registry that owns an AR, it makes 1 more pissed off voter if the Libs, Dippers, or White Shirts in Miramachie try and reclassify it in the wrong direction.

To be honest, if I get one, that will be my primary motivating factor.

Bingo, buy an AR while you can cheap 50 year surplus stuff can be bought anytime. :)

For me I like shooting my pistols so having an open AR platform just finishes it for me.

Driving a 2 round trip to shoot my unrestricted stuff at clays and such got old real quick. Factor in 6 months of winter, idiots shooting unsafely in the woods, and 50 bucks for gas, a membership that is safe, warm, and 5 minutes away makes way more sense.

Like I keep saying I use my SBR 10/22 for gophers and I can tell you no SKS ever came close to my scoped 10/22 on gophers at 100 yards never mind the fact farmers would just say no way to shooting gophers with my old SKS as opposed to my rimfire.

So whatever works works for you, for me it is about warm, safe, accurate shooting and of course the choice to shooting rimfire or center fire with one platform, iron sights, or magnified optics. I just never could get any of my SKSs to match my AR for comfort and accuracy.

Not being able to hit what you want when you want, and shooting in the cold just makes me shake my head.

Awesome video showing how much you can do upgrading the platform with add ons, however while it shows close quarter uses it did not show 100. 200 meter effectiveness as putting a bullet on target is what counts unless your needs are only for close range use :(

That looks like the abbotsford range, so the tannerite target was pretty close to the 100yd mark. Which the dude didn't seem to have any problem hitting.
 
Okay sorry just going by what I found with the 3 SKS and the 2 ARs I owned but hey what do I and and modern armies know?
 
Sks still have their place but AR's are top notch firearms, i kept a few very nice ones from more than a decade ago... JP.

Target shot at 200 meters with an sks and russian surplus ammo. Most of the rounds are falling into the scoring zone of a figure 11 target. I own a tavor, an armalite, and a cz. The sks is not better than any of them but I still enjoy shooting it. The gun is inexpensive, the ammo is inexpensive, it is reliable, and accurate enough.

Nice shooting, is that with standard iron sights? I am going to do a light bedding job on mine to try and tighten it up a bit, at 100yards I group around 5 inches, most of that is my poor skills though, I think it is good for 3 inch groups.
 
Just buy an AR shoot it and if you don't like it sell it. No one can tell you what you should like. If you want a cheap AR visit Canadaammo
 
I like the AR, nothing bad about the rifle. well built, accurate, light weight....If only the darn thing wasn't restricted ! I would much rather be trotting through the bushes with it for sure. But I have my trusty SKS for that, or my T97, or my keltec su-16, or my berretta X4 storm. Same 223 power and accuracy & Freedom, NO range fees,or att's or trigger locks and locked case"s.
