sks vs cz58s

CZ looks pretty tactical.

You can make an SKS look tactical

Personally I like the sks for what it is.

Accuracy they are about the same. Both are very reliable. Both have terrible sights. It comes down to taste. I love them both.

CZ are far more superior to a SKS

I was at the range two weekends ago and I was shooting an SKS of the bench with blocks of wood and sand bags. 1 out of 10 shots I would hit the gong at 200m. On the other hand standing up with the CZ I was able to hit the same gong 2 out of 5 times. I was so uninpressed with this "SKS" I cancelled my order with S.I.R. mail order were it was only going to cost me $169.99 + txes & shipping. SKS stand for Shooting with Klumps of Shat! Think about it if it was such a great rifle why did they create the AK??? Also if you fired an AK-47 and fired an CZ 858 you would also know wich one is more controlable and has greater accuacy. My 2 cents is to not even worth to waste a crate of ammo on it.
Good luck and happy shooting!

What kind of SKS were you shooting Satain?

They're many makers of the SKS, I think judging them all on one bad experience is pretty naive.

Personally, I think having one(or more) of each is the way to go :D
And welcome to the forum venom_bullet, I wish we had AKs here too!

sorry to ask but what the hell is S.I.R??????????????????

SIR is the old Sidney I. Robinson store in Winnipeg. It was recently bought out and has now become Cabella's (same chain as in the U.S.). SIR had a website but I'm not sure if it is still there or under Cabella's now.

I have both a CZ 858 and an SKS. Accuracy for both are the same and can easily hit the 200 yrd 24"x24" target when sighted with S & B PSP. With improved sights, they'll probably shoot better. Crappy sights dont help very much. I was planning to use the rifles for hunting and in the end I would have to pick the SKS. Mainly because every time I pull the trigger, it will go boom where as the CZ, although remedied, has still got the hiccups from the Gremlin and may not go boom when needed(especially when trailing a wounded bear!). Other than the Gremlin and cheekbite, the CZ has the weight advantage and the pistol grip fits one more naturally. IMO, the CZ is not worth any more than an SKS and we're getting over charged. I bought a pistol grip folding stock for the SKS too but it did not fit tight into the stock and when tipped upside down, would move so that affected accuracy. I removed it and is now back to original where its nice and tight. Comes down to it, its just personal preference. Both are the same.

The cartridge was developed in 1943 the sks itself had protypes used during 1945 and it went into production in 1949. In 1949 the russians adopted the AK-47 as the primary infantry rifle.

Going ahead 10 years in 1959 the us Army adopted the m-14 as a replacement for the garand. Then again in 1959 the M-16 was put into production.

Some folks still like the M-14 even though it was immediately replaced as was the sks.

I prefer the AK over an sks as well. Full Auto capability, 30-75 round mags, comparable accuracy and reliability. Because the russians decided in 1949 that it obsoletes the sks does not have much bearing on what a canadian choses to purchase in 2008.

Unless he is allowed to have prohibs he c'ant buy it anyway
It won't be full auto unless he wants to housed at a federal Penitary.
Limited to 5 rounds for the same reason
Not allowed out of the house for the same reason.

Yep the ak obsoleted the sks in 1949. But bill c-68 obsoleted the AK in 1995

dont be so quick to judge, there is a big difference in price, like 3X . its like comparing a VZ/CZ858 to a $2000 semi .

i have both and love both.

great that you cancel your order from SIR so now one of us who appreciate them would get them.

I don't know what they're doing with the name exactly, but a quick search will probably tell ya.

I stand corrected. Humble apologies to all. The CZ has a difinitive edge in accuracy over the sks. I was able to consistently ring our 12 X 24 inch gong at 350 yards with the a CZ 858 and it was quite safe from my sks. The last time I had the CZ out it was very bright sunshine making the sights difficult to pick up. Today was overcast and sight picture was easier.

I have both, a Norinco SKS and a CZ 858-2. I really don’t see how people can say one has better sights than the other; they’re both the same to me.

I’ve had more jams with my SKS than with the CZ, and on the CZ only when I shot it dry with the first 20 rounds. It has never jammed since I put some grease in the right places.

I don’t own a more expensive SKS, but the Norinco can never be compared to the CZ; the wood is crap, so soft the metal now floats in it from recoil. It gives about 50% larger groups than my 858, and that’s even when the wood was tight. It is heavier and longer, a hell of a lot less ergonomic and way less comfortable to hold than the 858. And although the feel is a very subjective thing, the SKS may be more comfortable for you, there is one thing that sets the 858 above the SKS, something which hasn’t been mentioned here, and that is the trigger. Even though my 858’s trigger isn’t as good as my Garand’s trigger, it is light years ahead of my SKS’s trigger. I could accept all the SKS’s shortcomings against the 858, considering the price difference, if only it had a decent trigger. But from all the firearms that I have, this SKS has the worst trigger. In fact, it has the worst trigger I have ever pulled on a firearm, ever. The trigger for me makes the whole deal, even if we forget all the other features that make the 858 superior. YMMV

I have SKS Yugo (no grenade luncher model) and I have 858-2, standing, off hands using cz I hit the steel in 200 yards 3 times out of the 5, with SKS Yugo (gun in perfect condition) I'm hitting steel 2-3 times out of 10, standing off hands...
CZ trigger is a bit better, it's aims easier then sks, and yes..it's very easy to clean compare to sks, cleaning sks is pain especially after corrosive ammo...
Reliability wise SKS never ever had any problems, just keep going none stop,
I don't know about CZ yet, it's new to me...
