Izhevsk production on sks

the letters after the serial number on Russian sks usually are 56 dated Tula. Izhevsk only made Russian sks carbines in 53 and 54 Be aware that top covers were re issued and scrubbed and re numbered so always look for the serial number and make sure no star is after it. I have seen three rebuilts with matching serial numbers that were dated and on a star Tula which is late 55 56

I have to say it is probably not Tula. Letter K in the end indicates that it is Izhevsk 55-56 year of production. It is refurbished that for sure.
Side note we have ones that are not welded on the mag.

That is a faint stamped Iraq proof and makes that sks a nice collectors piece. I have a couple with East German Proofs and have seen 1 other with Iraq proofs that is really nice!!!!

Wow, i was always think that my russian was only a mismacht rifle without any particularity making it collectable! The star is the Tula star so the sks is a 1955 or 56. The iraqui proof mark is the second pic,look like an inverted 2. All this must explain why the rifle is a total mismacht but obivously not a refurb like we are used to see. Here,s more pics, i had reoiled the stock long time ago since was no finish remaining, the rifle has missing bayonet and cleaning rod but otherwise complete, beaten to hell.

i was surprised with your above post , do you have more info as to why you think its izhevsk?

Must be a Tula but they didnt bother restamping the year on the cover during refurb.

the Iraq proof on your gun

is a bad example because of the stamping it normally looks like a triangle with a character almost like a question mark

Russian letters I K and D were usually stamped on Izevsk models. This is what was told to me. You can see the quality of Izhevsk rifle when you pick one. Me and my brother even play games who will pick out more Izhevsk in 5 min. One thing is we don't take ###X ones otherwise we would have more of those in stock.

Where did you get this one ????

I got it from Century Arms at Montreal in 1994. I paid $95 for, missing bayonet and accessories. After, i bought the missing part and also replaced the gas cylinder because the one on the rifle was loose and the rifle would not cycle properly. The bolt carrier was blued but not much blue was remaining, only bad rust so i repolished. Stock was beat to hell so i cleaned it,stained and oiled. That SKS is a good shooter. The only matching parts are trigger guard and receiver,the rest is total mismatch but since i replaced the gas tube, rifle work flawlessly, i think i will put it on my "never sell" list

You owe me half a beer, the square with the slash means refurbished, it was made in 1963, a lot of the rifles you will never know which of the two factories they came from. I can't really make out alot of the markings but what a lot of fun you can figuring them out! The "T" looks cryllic so don't assume it is Tulsa.
