With a couple cheap Cabela's $180 SKS.

I am not sure how anyone could look down on these guns.

One of funnest guns I have shot in a long time.

Not one failure and shot pretty accurately....

I hope the dealer's start bringing in more of these....

I got one 2 years ago an absolutely love it!

Fun & cheap to shoot, a bit of kick, good old wood/metal look and feel: what's not to love?

I wanted to know what shooting a 7.62X39 was like, and it simply just made me wish that a semi-auto version of an AK could become legal in Canada.

With current gun ban, it's more of an utopia...

It's quite cheap to modify (mostly changing the stock). If things settle down, I'll buy another one and will order a Dragunov-like stock for it.

I love the low-recoil, muzzle report, and surprisingly decent accuracy!!

I never really gave SKS much thought in the past...

Man what a firearm for $180....too bad we will never see that price again!!!

I have one. I still shoot it like its a $250 rifle. Why? Because it's a $250 rifle.

Today, for $200, you can buy a few Glock magazines, a Daisy BB gun, or Canadian Tire airsoft pistol.

2 weeks ago you could have purchased an SKS. Funny how things change!

The SKS was only cheap in price. Now many more will now discover that it is a great rifle: accurate, rugged and reliable. But, please still bash them as crap, we don't want the antis thinking they are half decent.

Garands used to be around $200, they weren't a $200 rifle either.

Actually, fully refurbed Garands could be had from Ye Olde Hunter for US$39 plus shipping along with 96 rounds of surplus ammo on enblocs, in bandoliers for another $1. Plus shipping of course.

I bought my first Garand in 1967 from them, along with the surplus ammo. It all came into Canada through the mail and was delivered by bus to our local post office.

My father went into a snit. We could have bough half a dozen Wiener Pigs for that much cash and would have made three times that by fall on them. I traded the Garand for a very decent saddle and horse.

Pretty much about the same value now???

the detachable mag has been floated around

lets say i knew of a guy that had a tapco SKS with a detachable mag. how hard would it be for him to find an original box mag and re attach it?

Now they have gone up in price we can appreciate them for what they are.A great money maker for those of us that bought lots of them for for cheap.When they double again in price they will become a finely made,accurate,piece of history instead of the garbage it used to be when it was dirt cheap.People like things that cost a lot of money, so I am saving mine for then.Trade for a nice BRNO maybe.

The Yugo SKS looks like a $1000 rifle if built today, maybe more. Fine machining and great fitting on a Yugo. Wood is also very very nice.

Russian SKS, OTOH, for being built with-in the Russian weapon design and manufacture philosophy, shoots well and will last a long long time. But internal machining is crude, so is the stock. But for the price differential, I'd take a Russkie anytime over a Yugo.

I sold off my SKS's a while back to fund an AR. Genius move. Well, that's the reason I don't buy Lotto tickets. I will never buy another house again because the real estate market will fall by the following a week.
