So I've seen a bunch of sks's with an FN FAL lower trigger group hybrid on the net. Would this be legal in Canada with marstars c-1 lower and semi auto parts? Shure looks cool!

You mean this?

I see no reason it would be illegal if it was semi only. it is really no different than any other mods to an sks, except this one looks cool. lower on a FAL is not serialized so is just a regular old part.

The full auto argument is a red herring. This is a complete remanufacturing that happens to use some parts from the FN FAL.

The Criminal Code definition of a firearm:
“firearm” means a barrelled weapon from which any shot, bullet or other projectile can be discharged and that is capable of causing serious bodily injury or death to a person, and includes any frame or receiver of such a barrelled weapon and anything that can be adapted for use as a firearm;"

So I guess the question for the lawyer / prosecutor / judge is, does a lower receiver constitute a frame, and would making a new upper redefine whether the lower as no longer an FN FAL?

The lower especially the design of the trigger, trigger sear and the safety sear is what makes it able to go FA.
The FAL design is FA but has been made to SA only and yes FA is way too easy. The upper portion is just a block of steel with a barrel and a gas tube. Nothing special there. I do believe that most firearms are categorized by the lower, frame or where the fire control is. Plus with the overall design the magazine is too far forward to be comfortable. The FAL design just fits into your arms with the mag against your inner forearm for support.

My 2 cents.

since the receiver that holds the serial of the sks is intact and the fal parts are not numbered it would just be an sks. no different than using an m16 upper on an ar15 lower. its just parts...not legal advice, just comparing this to things already being done that are legal...

As mentioned, the fal differs since its lower is not legally the gun, and is therefore not controlled.

I like the fact that the sight radius has increased by twice the length.
Would be very interesting to see.
Up here in Canada though, the logistics issues you may find are that you would have to convince one of the dying few who still are fortunate enough to be able to hoard an FAL to sell you half his firearm for less than $3000 dollars.
I suppose it could be possible to import one of the U.S. made semi auto only lowers from 'Merica(!)
It's interesting though, I'm not much for Frankenstein projects but that one looks pretty good.
There's guys on these forums whose work I've seen that is 10 fold as good as that pic as well. It could be done for sure.
