Usually i dont like all riced out guns that make them look horrible. changing stocks and adding all weird a$$ rails etc but As I have two I decided to play with one. I found a little work can be done to make it eject to the side instead of up... Then wanted to clean up the look and reduce weight by removing the bayo while still having that military look and keeping the rod. For that i installed a sleve in where rod sits.
Plus a neat idea I had with keeping the spare round...
Next I want to add removable metal mag 5/10 and enlarged mag release. As far as stock the only one I will consider is a laminate. For now I will put a recoil pad to make it longer and refinish it with something more attractive.
Any ideas on stock options, mag and release? Please share.

So long as your happy with it. I've tried the tapco and while I'd never waste the money again it wasn't bad. Go for the railed version and run a fore grip, the tapco forend is like a 2X4. The tapco stubby worked well for me. For that type of rifle I'll always spend the extra on the 858 for so many reasons but to each their own. The best thing you can add is a new sling. The old Russian design is just a carry strap. The specter gear sop sling for the AK works well with the SKS.

I am not a big fan of synthetic stocks. So laminate is only option. I would like to get 5/10 metal magazine for it next. Any idea where?? Sling I like... Is crap but is green original like..
858??!! What's that? Hehehe... Just joking. That's my next purchase...

Yup IMO the Timbersmith stock is the nicest wood stock for an SKS.
I really like mine too, longer buttstock, little recoil pad and the rifle is much more balanced, even with the bayonet but it does not improve accuracy...

If you can wait 3 or 4 months, the Archangel synthetic stock looks really nice too !!!

With the Promag 5/10 rounds mag...

Why do people modify the receiver to make the brass eject to the side?
What's wrong with it going up? lol

I never saw it to be any kind of fault of the rifle in any way?

Something I'm missing?

For anyone with a scout mount or receiver mount and a long optic, the ejected casings will continuously slam into it. If you mod it to eject to the side, problem solved without ugly shell deflectors.
