SKS's being re-classified ?

I hope you are right. So far, they have been predominantly voting for the parties which want to ban all guns.
And the fact that they are familiar with the guns, does not mean they support the laws allowing to own firearms.
In a similar way, criminals are very familiar with the guns, but obviously they will benefit if only the criminals are allowed to have guns, which would happen automatically if the laws ban firearms ownership.

Entirely not true.

The CPC made strong inroads with various immigrant communities during their term, to the point where they have very much become a "swing" block in many communities.

And there's good reason for this. A lot of recent immigrants are from APAC combloc nations, and deeply distrust big government. The same goes for immigrants from former European combloc nations.

I ran into an older gent at the range a couple years ago - he was eyeing up my CZ 452. Turns out he had worked at Brno back in the day, and he recognized my CZ as an updated Model 2e from halfway across the range. We got to talking a bit, then he went off on an absolute rant (that I was happy to hear) about our silly gun laws. It went along the lines of "Don't people understand? This is how they keep you under their thumb. They take away your ability to fight back."

I've heard/seen similar sentiments from people who've fled various totalitarian regimes. They're among the strongest, and most ardent gun rights supporters we have in this country. And they won't vote Lib or Dip for that reason alone.

Having talked to several RCMP members I personally believe the SKS is in their sights for a few reasons. Being able to make it slam fire full auto (a non real full auto and unafe condition) would just be the excuse to ban it. The SKS has been turning up at drug busts and other crime scenes (im not saying actual shootings) and some of these guns have been traced back to legit gun owners who are staw purchasing them for gang members... or so the story goes.

The SKS variants are cheap like borscht. Everyone and his dog has one or more, or so it seems. The fact that it can be used by drug dealers and could be "straw purchased" for criminal misuse is a non-starter.

So could a Winchester '94 and dozens more be similarly "straw purchased". With all the money drug dealers have at their disposal, who needs a "straw dealer" anyway? Just putting the word out on the street should be sufficient.

This is still no excuse to set sights on the SKS, did they say anything alluding to this, or just what you see as them using as an excuse?

Other guns are being purchased by legit owners and sold to criminals. The SKS just seems to be a popular one. What is a non starter to us isnt a non starter when spun a certain way for someones agenda

...are they going to ban the full auto get away cars as well? Lets Ban all of the tools of the criminal underworld...then there will be no criminals, hang on. If there are no criminals, what on earth do we need cops for?

The SKS is prolific because it's an affordable every mans rifle. RCMP know this, and it's why they show up, I have no kind words for them on firearms related matters.

The RCMP wants all semi auto center fires that are capable of taking an extended mag gone . It goes back to the Moncton shooting where they were quickly overwhelmed by a guy with a semi auto rifle . The RCMP strongly believe that only the police and military should have access to that type of rifle.....and they are lobbying govt. hard to make their demands heard...

why just semi-auto ? they want *all* guns prohibited.

We not privy to some kind of insider information on what goes on with the RCMP brass that make the decisions to come after guns. We have just been told that this is an ongoing issue for them and these guns have turned up at serveral drug busts/ crime scenes and were traced back to legal purchases. Its only my opinion this is part of the story. As they say opinions are like a$$holes...

Oh sure. I was just wondering if it was alluded or not. I'm interested in knowing what most of the boots on the ground think. We know the brass bureaucrats are only in to politics and not public safety. Actually I never understood this, must have started with liberal appoints at the top, back in the day, I would imagine. But here I'm just speaking out my own a$$

If the SKS was capable of firing full auto, the Eastern Bloc countries would have done it a long time ago instead of buying new rifles.

I'm curious as to how the RCMP could tell where some these SKS's came from since I have personally seen a sales receipt for an SKS that was made out to "cash" and under PAL# it said "valid". There was no other identifying information apart from a hand written serial number. So if this particular gun were to end up in criminal hands, how the heck could it be traced to any purchaser, straw or otherwise?

Not all receipts are filled out that way. Every buy a gun from Canadian tire?

It may vary from prov. to prov. ; but I bought two Mosins at CT , they just glanced at my PAL , and was good to go....no name or paper work required...

Because it's cheap and plentiful. It's like the Saturday night special back in the 70s. Heck they were everywhere. Cheap easy to get and so many tgat strawcpurchases go unnoticed without a registry.
