It is hard to tell the condition af a SKS

Refurb
Non-refurd
Stooter Grade
High Grade
Super Grade
Collector Grade
BBQ paint grade
Alls matching ser #
Alls matching ser # except mag
Unissued

I have seen some (super grade) that look like ####....

There are so many of them around that it would be nice to have a standard for condition

Hooo i forgot....... there are still peeples that still think that the #1 stamped on the barrel and sight stand for (accurancy)or sniper grade

Super and High Grade is BS. Means nothing.
Non refurb= No refurb mark stamped on the top of the receiver. All Russian SKS made before 1955 have a solid wood stock.
All s/n matching= Stock, receiver, receiver cover, bolt carrier and bolt have s/n stamped with the SAME FONT number. Gas tube, gas piston, bolt extractor and the back of the rear sight ladder are electropencilled.
Collector grade= All Russian SKS in the original condition plus Chinese Type 56 factory 26 with threaded barrel.

Alot of the super grade now are just old molot imports and maybe at best cld be considered hand picked... rusted sks are selling for 350. I bet that more chinese sks will become available but as for the russian ones, they basically dried up after the conflict in Ukraine so those will continue to rise in value in my opinion.
 
the same can be said from the people willing to pay more at a time for yugo, albanian, ddr or north korean ones ... market only.

we were laughing at t81 seeling for $999 and mag for less than $30 guess those prices are gone too ...
 
so with all this talk of refurb, non issue, matching numbers and all, I don't see anyone talking about the D models with the AK style mag release
Don't see too many listed in the EE in all this selling/buying craze either.
I doubt that folks are snapping up sks rifles because they can't shoot their other banned x39 semis.
I think it has more to do with not trusting the government and the future Trudeau has laid before us but I could be wrong

Probably, the sksD are likely in the same boat as the nicer sks, their price has not risen, so why would they sell them for $550 or so, if that was what they could have gotten before the rush! Mostly the shooter grade ( still great guns) have jumped. I don't blame folks for being apprehensive about what the liberals will do next! Hedge your bets and buy a couple SKS while the sale of such doesn't have to be registered, ( C71).

sks d and kd is the best kept secret of non actual oic ... you can find some if you re patient for 850 to 1000 . good luck

The D model is over-rated, in my opinion.

I found the mags difficult to swap in a hurry, and if the mags are pinned for an AK (which they all are), then you can only fit 4 rounds if you use them with the D model SKS, as the bolt intrudes further into the mag than an AK bolt would. At least that was true for my KCI ones I had.

For the price I'd have to pay for an SKS-D, I'd rather have a Type 97. They are surprisingly well made for what they are. Chinese manufacturing has come a long way in 30 years.

I agree with this comment based on my own experience. I was grumpy when I found out about the magazine issue after I bought the SKS-D.

I would also add that holding up the SKS-D and changing mags makes for some very tiring hands after awhile. Thats when I found out that pistol grip is indeed superior

try t81 mag : solution of some issues ...
 
I was never a fan of the 5/30's, they are way too long on the SKS and make prone shooting awkward for me.

If I could try a 5/20 Type 81 mag I would, but sadly retailers everywhere are sold out of everything... and my SKS-D was lost in a boating accident some time ago.

I'd be happy to stick to my Type 97 but it, too, was lost in a fishing incident some time ago...

Made up grades so they can sell you a $200.00 gun for $500.+ and you think you got something special

Picked up a non refurb Chinese SKS today from a buddy that I had been dealing in since x mas, still got it for pre ban price, as well as 1060 non corrosive rounds and 400 corrosive, I’ll post some photos for fun, this makes sks #4
And I gotta say, I like the Chinese better than the Russians.
 
I think the russians are better. I love my refurbs... the yugos are the best all around. A truly unissued chinese might be great.
