In one of the threads in this forum reference was made to an SKT-40, which I had never heard of. In trying to do a little research on this it turns out that the consensus seems to be that some 2000 of this carbine were produced.

However, in several different locations I saw references to what were called "Marstar cutdowns" which were produced in Canada and appear to have been made in the 1990's and which seemed to have a derogatory connotation.

Were these firearms which were pawned off as being SKT-40s, or were they something else altogether?

Does anyone have any information on them?

What I've read about the SKT is that they were generally modified from damaged SVT rifles. There are some Globe sporters in Canada. Cut down and modified to shoot .303 british. Dangerous to shoot. I'd love to see an example of an original SKT if anyone has one.

I just thought that with Marstar being a Canadian company, some of the long timers on the forum might have heard of the "cutdown" or they might have popped up from time to time on the EE. They sound interesting.

i have a globe sporter theyre pretty micky mouse they move the gas system to close making the preassure curve rather high theyre finicky...

Why are they dangerous to shoot?

Dangerous to shoot in the long term. Globe not only shortened the rifles but shortened the gas system without making any compensation for the increased pressure. The action cycles very violently and can eventually crack the back of the receiver. However, installing a new, more restricted gas regulator or venting the gas tube solves these issues.

You don't see a ton of Globeco Mohawk's these days. The reason for that is Blastattack said, they beat themselves to death, and most of them did that long before I was born. ('92)

On the topic of these cutdowns, I believe I've heard of them but never seen one. If anyone owns one, a pic would be cool!

I wouldn't even dream of original skt/atm as so few exist in museums. As for .303 conversion I keep seeing them here and there for sale or trade, but I pass them, didn't think there's any interest in them.
