I was out shopping for 9mm handguns today and found that most of them were too large for my hands. I tried out a Ruger P89 which was way to thick, a Glock 17 which was not too bad but I wasn't fond of the plastic feel, a Beretta ?92? in .40 which had a nice rubber grip with finger gooves and was not bad to hold, and a Browning Hi-Power which was nice and slim but wasn't overly ergonomic to grip in that the standard wood grips were nothing to write home about. I've handled a CZ 75 and found it comfortable as well but I was wondering if there were any other 9mm's that I should check out. I don't think there's a local place to feel up a Sig but I would consider trying to track one down if it would be suitable. It doesn't have to be a double stack and I don't shoot IPSC or anything like that.
 
you should really try out a sig, i love the ergonomics of them. i just bought a sig 226 this year and have put 3000 rounds through it. the part i like the best is the slide release is right next to your thumb so you dont have to reach for it.
 
If we are just talking about the grips, the P99 is pretty darn comfortable. But if we are talking about the entire gun being slim, I would go with a 1911 or commercial browning. I haven't shot a Browning yet, but I sure handles pretty nice. I have a sig P220 in 9mm, it's pretty comfortable, and I find it to be very accurate, but I have to admit that the P99 is even more comfortable, but never really got a good feel for accuracy.

I love it, my kids love it.......
I have to say though, after shooting .22's for a few times, seeing my 11yr old boy grab the 99 and pull the trigger, was priceless!!
It was like a cartoon movie, he wasn't quite expecting the recoil, and it popped him back a bit!!

Yup the p99 is pretty darn ergonomic all right. Probably has the best feel, especially for small hands of any pistol I have owned. Too bad the trigger is so ####ty.

Might consider a single stack 9mm 1911 or single stack Sig. Question on Sigs though, I hear of P210's, 220's, 225's, 226's, and 228's but I don't really know what they all mean.... Just styling differences or what. I think the 226 is a double stack and the 228 is the smaller version of it, and the 220 is a single stack and the 225 a smaller version of it, but what's with the 210??

Oh, and after the P22 I'm not a big fan of anything with a Walther logo on it....
 
Well, I'd personally just buy a Norinco NP29, 9mm single stack 1911. Very slim grip, best steel you could hope for (better than US counterparts), and a price in the three hundreds $ wise. Spend a few bucks replacing ugly parts, and customize it for yourself, "replacing" cheap parts ends up letting you tailor the gun to yourself.
 
I'll second that the S&W 39 & 952 have very slim, ergonomic and comfortable grips, but the former is a prohib and the latter is mucho $.

A more reasonable restricted-class alternative would be a used Browning BDM. While fairly rare, they do pop up for sale now and then for anywhere between $500-600. The BDM is a wonderful "feeling" pistol. The whole gun, including the grip, is extremely slim and it's a very natural pointer.
