SLR tips, tricks and observations

Is there a list of triggers that will work in that POS trigger box?
Pretty sure just wasted a couple hundered bucks on a Hyperfire trigger so can’t afford to make the same mistake twice.

ALG ACT

Great trigger. Comes with two sets of springs for light or heavier pull. Its excellent. Only LARPers and mall-ninjas spend hundreds of $ on triggers.

This. If your barrel isn't 1:8 or faster, it likely won't shoot 77 grain bullets well.

Looks like all of Maple Ridge's barrels are 1:8, so you should be good? I have an S&J stainless match barrel on mine, also 1:8. I'm looking at picking up some heavier bullet ammo and see if I can find something that it likes. Accuracy with surplus 5.56 and Norinco ".223" (With a military headstamp. Super convinced that it's .223 remington and not 5.56 Nato, lol) was pretty meh. Good enough for 3-gun, but not great by any means. I also only have a 1-6 strike eagle on it, so not an ideal reticle for attempting to shoot tiny groups. I ordered in a 4-16 for accuracy testing, so that will hopefully help a little bit.

Thats what i have been told, the 1:8 mra should handle the 77gr. J need better optics than the 1x4. I am looking at a vortex 4x12x40.

I disagree. The ACT is just a tarted up Mil-spec trigger with some lipstick on it.
If you are going to spend money on a trigger, any trigger, then Geisselle's are certainly worth the dough, and are a properly built trigger worthy of sticking into an SR/SLR/MV or whatever will take them.
If one is looking to spend very little, and have the reliability of a mil-spec type trigger, then stick with a milspec trigger and learn to polish it up and give it similar treatment that the ACT gets - for free.
It's no more difficult than installing the trigger group into the lower.

Yeah the Geissele SSP trigger is pretty good - however my JP Single Stage has less creep and overtravel, albeit with a higher trigger weight/pull.

To be honest, I'm a little disappointed in the SSP for the price I paid compared to the JP (around $125).

My cool Tactical Expressions dust cover just arrived abd I went to install them. Just realized the rear pin socket is closed- unlike an AR15. WTF!

I can’t fit the pin in past the barrel but. I think I need to remove the bloody barrel or modify the nut. Unless someone sells two piece ejection port pins or someone has a good idea ?

Maybe I can use a spring loaded dust cover and swap the parts.

Did you order direct from Tactical Expression? Any issues getting it shipped?

I've been thinking of ordering from them but haven't heard from anyone who has yet.

Thanks in advance

You'll have to remove the barrel nut and install the dust cover then reinstall the barrel nut.

Got the 4-16 in. I also picked up some 77 grain pmc x-tac match (w/ Sierra match kings), 75 grain Hornady steel match (bthp bullets), hornady 75 grain superformance match (Eld match bullets), and some 73 grain federal gold medal Berger (bt target open tip match? Bullets).

Now if it would just warm up a bit outside, lol.

superformance match ... I would not use this in a semi-auto.

It is recommended that to get the best functioning with Superformance ammunition in gas operated/gas piston semi-automatic or select fire guns, rifle length gas systems with 20 inch or longer barrel lengths are best for reliable firing and extraction. Any other configuration, particularly shorter barrels/gas systems are best served with the installation of an adjustable gas system

let us know your results!

why? I have used many, many 53gr hornady thru my XCR, AR15, and also some thru my SLR. It is one of the most accurate rounds thru my semi autos

This fine design doesn't require the annoying c clip and has the rod completely covered. However it needs to be inserted prior to the barrel nut installation.

I don't know why I didn't notice it before, guess I wasn't thinking about dust covers. Too bad as I have these:

I don't feel like removing the gas block, tube and nuts, so I think I'll get one of the spring loaded dust covers. Strike Industries makes a spiffy one. There are some other ones that are more generic and possibly they could be disassembled and use the springs/pin on the Tactical Expressions one. Or just use it when I get a new upper. :)

They are getting cerakoted in the spring anyway. So I can disassemble abd instsll then. Problem solved.

I just finished building my slr. It has a 18.6” mra barrel with a midlenght gas tube. When I fire the rifle, half the time the bolt cycles but not enough to chamber the next round, and the other half the time the empty casing fails to eject completely. Seems like there’s not enough gas pressure... my gas block is a standard cheap one I bought on tna. Would an adjustable gas block give me more pressure if adjusted accordingly or should I look elsewhere to find my problem?
