slugs in my pocket

I think I got a exagerated story from the guy I work with, I will inform him of his mistakes monday, thanks for all the comments

I would not hesitate to shoot an attacking bear with a load of birdshot. I think if a bear was that close you would not have time to change over to a slug load. A load of sixes at 10 to 15 ft do considerable damage. With that in mind there is no need to carry slugs.

In Ontario, you cannot tell a CO that you have a gun for "self defense/ protection...not allowed.

But crows, coyotes (most of Ont.) and others can be hunted year-round...so you are hunting.

Technicality, yes, but it is a way around the "system". :)
Your 'most of Ontario' doesn't include a lot of Ontario for 2 1/2 months. Have a look at the map that is referred to below.

A small game licence tag also permits you to hunt American crow, brown-headed cowbird, common grackle, house sparrow, red-winged blackbird or starlings and other animals not scheduled under the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act, 1997 (e.g., groundhogs)**. You may also hunt on game bird hunting preserves with this licence. This licence is not valid in northern Ontario and part of central Ontario from June 16 to August 31, except for hunting by falconry and hunting game birds on a game bird hunting preserve (see Map 2, pages 8 to 9, for more details).

Ill pay the fine rather then get eaten alive by a grizzley. Shells would only piss a bear off. 3 Inch slug could change his mind.

I have read that # 6 shot changes a bears mind very quickly when shot head on... in the face.

Works faster than a slug to the body... to blurr the senses, and make the animal think twice about an attack to kill and eat the tax payer.:(

And youre legal to boot!.:D

BEAR attacks in Ontario are RARE, very rare. I have only ever seen 1 live bear in 25 + years of bird and deer hunting. This in SW ont and some moose hunts in NW ont.
There are getting to be more bears around for sure but they still try to avoid people.

The whole story here is BS. The CO would not search him. I have never been searched. He may have asked him to empty his pockets. But, you can't carry slugs when there is an open season unless you have a valid lic. (otherwise you damn well do intend to poach)

Must be hefty Grouse in BC.

ONly 5 slugs:

When I hunt grouse I have a shell belt with 20 rounds of 20 guage #6 shot and 5 slugs...

Thankfully there is no such silly law in BC.

I carry them in case I see a deer or bear I might want to kill. Or if a bear wanted to eat me, i guess...I've slipped them into my shotgun barrels a couple of times but never needed to use them.

Started doing that after an intense and scary ordeal with an absolutely giant black bear who was also pissed off at my Gal and I, and there I was standing there with 2 rounds of #6 on the barrels, trying to look tough.:p

I was just kidding around, Despite it's preponderence of Hippies in some locations BC seems not too bad on the silly hunting laws front.

Most of us dont set out to break any game laws....we all go out to have a stress free day, a walk on the wild side with a gun.:p

It just seems right being a Canadian to go out hunting, plinking or target shooting.... and I sometimes feel guilty for not getting out as much as I should.

Co's are good guys and are there to protect game... fair enough, but be careful what you say cause they seem to be judge and jury of the bush.

They can find you guilty of the simplest things, and know you wont fight charges if you live 500 kms away. so the petty fines are around one or two days pay and most just give up and pay.

Not bad really, if you think you talked youre way into being buds with a co.:D

agree on most part with exception of judge and jury, co's issue tickets, you have an option of fighting it in front of an actual judge, like sunray said it

Since I don't live in Canada(only in my mind wish I did)it seems stupid to charge one with

intent to hunt bigger game just because they had the round on there person,as oposed

to in there weapon! If they caught you with the Bernekke slug in your gun ,then it' s

pretty obious you are not grouse hunting!

It's trullay a shame a man can't hunt with a 12 guage and have bird shot and buck or

slugs with him!

x2. Next thing you know we will only be alowed to have a gun in the bush during hunting season, And only be alowed to shoot at the range the rest of the year. If the slug's were in the gun that may be different.
