Smith and Wesson FPC folding carbine

I wish it comes with a adjustable stock, its fixed stock has a LOP of 14.5 inch which is too long for me.

I like having more options in the market, I hope this thing works better than it looks.

Yes, that stock looks like an afterthought. And the rifle is very pudgy when folded. Compared to the Sub2000 on that front, there is no comparison.

It should balance nicely, with the light polymer handguard and the shorter layout you get by having the magazines located in the grip.

But using the short grip might turn out to be an issue, I'm guessing they really wanted to be able to use M&P Compact magazines. Looks like regular mags need the spacer.

What the heck is with the safety location? It requires your off-hand in one direction.

And the supposedly non-reciprocating charging handle right in front of your face? You can see it reciprocating (albeit inconsistently) in review videos.

Just order regular mag bases ands you can use the 10 rd mags we get up here. The metal part of the mage is the same length as the length in both the 10 rd FS mags and the Compact mags. I have the Compact with a number of FS mag bodies wearing the Compact/17rd mag bases. The base pads are dirt cheap.

If this gun comes in at around $1400 for a NR version for Canada I will be a buyer for certain. The 18" barrel will be shipped only to Canada so if IRG were do bring ins some from the US they would be the Restricted version I would think.

At $1,400 for the Smith I would think = the Keltec Sub2K is in a world of hurt along with the Ruger using backpacker stocks.

The gun looks like a dream gun for PCC Division. Nothing really to do but mount an Optic and go play.

ps Here i a link to Honest Outlaw's review. He tends to be a tad more objective than most. If the gun comes up here with an 18 " barrel it will come with three FS Mags or better yet three compsct mags and you won't have to deal with getting Compact Mag bases.

Really? I didn't notice that. Too bad, part of why I want a PCC is so the kids can play with something other than 22lr, guess this isn't the ticket for that though... Still interested depending on the price, and whether the safety is reversible (I shoot left)...

Why wouldn't IRG be able to get the NR version? Im almost certain they've been able to get NR versions of guns for us before?

$1400 sounds insane IMO. The Ruger PCC has an MSRP of $779usd and the NR versions sell for $999cad at Cabelas (who isn't exactly known for great prices on guns). Based on that, a price of $850-900 is what would be reasonable. $1000 would be a good price point IMO, there are a bunch of options right around that (Keltec, Ruger, TNW ASR, JR carbine), and a few under (Chiappa, Hi Point).

$1400 is what I would expect the ballpark price to be for an R gun that Dlask has installed a NR barrel on, not a factory NR version.

Sutter you are paying $1400 for the FX9 that sells for around $700US or so. Hell none of us know but the price point for the Kodiac and FX9 up here runs around the $1.400 Cdn mark. $780US equals $1,070.Cdn rounded before dealer profit, import fees and transportation using the Cdn$ at 73 cents to the US Dollar. 1/.73 =1.37X780=$1,070 rounded.

As to what IRG imports the 18" barrel won't likely be sold in the US and S&W might not want to disturb their CA importer by allowing 3rd party access to the NR version made for Canada, IF one is actually made. Given Trudeau's antics of late I would not hold my breath one way or another. I wouldn't care personally to have the Restricted version as I don't see me wanting to do much more with the gun than using it at our range. Again we won't know until it happens or not.

Here is Jerry's take on the gun.

MSRP on the FX9 is $829, nearly $200usd more than the S&W. That would be $1127 at current exchange rate, so mark up beyond MSRP is about 25%. Applying the same exchange rate and a 25% mark up on the S&W only gets us to $1118.

The way I see it, $900-1000 makes them very competitive in the segment. At $1400 they're competing with the AR-esque stuff like the FX9, and I can't help but feel like most people are going to pick the metal gun with AR parts compatibility that takes glock mags over the S&W that is almost entirely plastic (including the front handguard), or pick the Ruger that is $400+ cheaper. I guess time will tell though.

No way to tell what the pricing will be for an NR version in Canada, really. Being sensible businessmen, I'd expect them to price this rifle at whatever they think will make the most profits. That has more to do with available competing products than it does with US MSRP, if you catch my meaning.

What do we have for pricepoints: HiPoint, KelTec, Ruger, and FX9? If this S&W works well, I'd guess they'll try to price it to compete with the Ruger, maybe optimistically a bit more.

With all do respect just do the math. Before a 20% Canadian Dealer Mark up, a 10% Canadian Distriuter Mark up and transportation you are at $1,070. the present retail US rate was as of yesterday approx. 73 cents to the dollar which based upon a retail US MSRP of $829., your figure, the price works out to $1,070 Canadian.

US MSRP Cdn$ $1,070
10% Cdn Distributer Markup $ 107
20% Dealer Profit $ 235

Total $1,412

Not sure how you do exchange rates but 1 USD = 1.37 Cdn: $.73US =$1 Cdn
Assuming the rate is 73 cents to the US Dollar for the Importer. Quoted rates on TV, Newspaper, Radio are normally Inter Bank Rates at a certain time of the day and do not include Canadian Bank Profits on the exchange and are for amounts of 1 Million Dollars or more. One I was concerned about rates for my clients 1 Buck quotes were for a minimum purchase of one million dollars or more and contained a minimum of 15 points to the Bank's dealer.

The present FX9 price is $1,450 in Canada. I have seen them for less but now no one seems to have any product.

If the US FX9 MSRP is $829 work the numbers. Allow some profit for the dealer and the Distributor. At it's present selling rate of $1,450 it is a good buy. What we don't know is what the distributer/s forward US Dollar exchange rate was when the last batch of carbines entered Canada. I would not be surprised to see the next batch of FX9's carrying a higher price point given the recent decline in our dollar. If it remains the same then someone has shaved their markup either the manufacturer, the Cdn Distributor or the retailer, all of which is possible.

If the Smith comes in under $1,400 either S&W or the Cdn Disributer and or dealer have shaved their margins. S&W can set their MSRP to their Canadian Distributer to be anything they want including selling the gun cheaper to the Canadian market than they do for their US Distributors. Based upon the math I would bet the farm it will be closer to $1,400 than it is to $1,000.

MSRP already factors in profit for distributors and retailers though.

Also, I just noticed the MSRP for the FX9 18" version is $1299 on their website... If you do the math off that MSRP you're looking at $1765 CAD after the conversion.

My conversion rates are done via google - "###usd to cad".

For the US market to be sure. You have to have some basic base to calculate from. It is not uncommon for the US retail rate to be the Canadian wholesale rate. If that were the case you could reduce the $1,400 by $100. Alpining makes a good point it, the price will be what the dealer/distributor thinks he can get and where they want to price point to be. This gun will be of interest to the competitive shooter as much as it is the plinker and from what I can see will be very attractive to the Canadian competitors even if it only comes in as a restrictive firearm. Using 10 rd Compact mags it will be fast to reload, the gun is dead nuts reliable as the workings are all M&P pistol and it certainly appears to be accurate enough. Add an Optic and go play with a proven platform.

Well the MSRP might well be but that is not where the retail pricing has been in Canada for the past 2 years when our dollar was over 80 cents.

ps I paid $1,260 for my FX9 Feb, 2020, now they are $1,450 just saying.

The workings are not M&P pistol though, its a straight blowback carbine, the pistol is a locked breech system with a tilting barrel isn't it?

Yes you are right but the trigger group, grip and mags are all M&P that s what I was trying to say and should have been more specific. If you like the M&P pistol you are going to like this carbine as the ergos relating to the grip are going to be virtually the same. For Canada, if they do ship the guns up here, I would hope the carbines would come with three 10 rd Compact mags vs the FS 10rd mags. If they do we would not have to either buy Compact base plates or deal with the collar arrangement using the FSmags which is a PITA frankly.

Is it an M&P trigger? Its certainly doesn't look like the same trigger coming in the M&P 2.0 pistols with the pivot in the middle, the FPC is more like a glock with the middle blade deal going on? I hope they were able to make it compatible with M&P triggers because an aftermarket already exists for those, but S&W makes no mention of that on their website for the gun. The only compatibility they mention is the magazines.

Check out the performance Center Gen2 M&P. Same trigger I think. With a blow back action you don't want to light a trigger. Just under 5lbs would be all I would want.

Wow, where did my farm go to? $999 with possibility of a sale dropping price Say $100. From time time, I just wrote a cheque out. I hope it is here before June. I could even be in for a 16" version although given Trudeau I might want a NR version.

You do give up the iron sight option that you have with the KelTec, but I think this is much less relevant than it ever was.

Keltec irons are garbage anyway. They're about a quarter/half inch too low. I have to smash my face into my sub2000 to try and get a sight picture, and couldn't get my face smashed low enough on the ks7. Which is too bad I liked the space gun carry handle look.
