Anyone have any feed back on the Smith & Wesson M&P?

Looking at buying my 1st pistol and give'n IDPA a try. Also what are your thoughts of the XD9?

Not interested in Glocks.

I like it. Light, accurate, runs like a champ. Not super crazy about the sights, but nothing's perfect.

If you're getting one for competition, you might want to look into ordering the version without the magazine safety.

I see you're in Chilliwack FullDraw. Mine's going to the smiths for a bit but when I get it back you're more than welcome to give it a run if you'd like to meet at the range sometime.

M&p

CableMonkey I was looking at the M&P Pro, it has the updated sights on it.
That's good advice on the mag saftey, I will look into that.

Davy I would interested in your offer, let me know pistol back from the smith, would be nice to try one before I purchase. I shot a
XD40 and liked it but the Smith M&P for the money looks good. I just joined the Wack club on the weekend and will be going there tomorrow night to try some pistols out.

Actually, I like the factory sights and the gun shoots very well with them.
I was in the same shoes before buying the M&P. The XD9 is a very nice gun too. It's a toss up between the two but a really good deal made me go for the M&P.
I like the safety options on the XD and it's high on my list when I'm ready to buy ($$$...) a .45 cal.
The M&P has a really good grip system and I like the feel of it.
Read some reviews of both guns and try them at the store to see how they feel. Also, try to shoot with them at your club.
The Smith & Wesson promotion is still on and you can get a gun with 4 mags for about $600.
Either one is a fine gun but I can only speak for the M&P because I've never fired an XD yet.

I'm very happy with my M&P 9mm. The value to price ratio is pretty good, especially with the extras offered direct from S&W.

I have the M&P9 and use it in both IPSC and IDPA. In IDPA it qualifies to shoot in both SSP and ESP divisions(and CDP if .45ACP). The XD is limited to ESP(or CDP if .45ACP) due to being considered single action.

If you go with the M&P, try and find one without the mag safety as suggested before.

M&P is a great gun! Personally I love the (Novak) sights, wish every gun came with them... so far mine has been 100% reliable and I've only shot reloads thru it;

Here's mine with a couple mods

Another happy M&P 9 owner here. I like the interchangeable grips and the factory sights are great. Very good price w/ the rebate promo. Overall, gun is excellent!

My M&P has been nothing but a great experience. I sold my Glock shortly after. (Not that I had anything against Glock's- I just needed the money). When making the decision to buy, I also checked out the XD9, and was headed that route until I picked up the S&W. I found that the natural feel / pointablility of the M&P felt much better to me than both my Glock and the XD. My first day on the range, I was worried about the POI , which was consistently low and left. I adjusted the rear sight a little, and it seemed to improve, but was still left. Then, someone with far superior knowledge to myself watched me and had me adjust my grip slightly, and from then on I was putting them into the centre consistantly (and fast). You won't be dissapointed with the M&P9- S&W is making a great product now. Never a stoppage (that should be a given with any modern 9), fast, light, thin...Best of luck with your decision. Let us know what you decide.

Happy M&P .40 owner, with no issues so far. Oh one issue, the mags are a beech to load, but with the help of UpLula that's no longer a problem.

One of our IDPA shooters has an M&P 9mm. Other than the fact that it fails to extract every couple of mags, it's a fine gun.

I think she got the proverbial lemon.

Anyone know a dealer or rep that will extend the 2 free mag and $50 off deal for one more sale??? Appears the S&W website is offering 30 of OR 2 mags... Drat.

I just realized... The $50.00 discount with 2 mags promo ended on April 30th. It was an awesome deal.
IMO, the gun is still worth every penny even without any discount and freebies.

I'm a happy M&P40 owner, good pistol for the money.
But the sights leave something to be desired, Dawson makes a good set.
The magazine disconnect feature sucks, Try to get one without it or see if you can get the factory parts to disable it.
If your going to give IDPA a whirl, IPSC isn't a far leap and the M&P9Pro will put you in standard division in IPSC. The M&P9L is IPSC production legal, which is where the gun should be IMO.
