Smith & Wesson MP sport 2.....poor quality!

Just got my new sport 2 in the mail. Mine has a gap at the rear between upper and lower. Approx width of 1.5 business cards. Fit and finish isn't as good as my M&P 2.0 9mm pistol (flawless).

I'd be interested to know the serial number on yours airbatic and where you bought it? You can private message me. Upon further inspection of mine I'm not very impressed. Looking closer at airbatics photos and comparing mine I'd say the receiver gap is the same. My buffer tube & stock are big time off center. My barrel nut is a few degrees off center (enough my quad rail doesn't line up). I don't have the tools to fix all these things and shouldn't have to on a brand new store purchased rifle. I read every review on the internet telling me this was the rifle to buy. So far two thumbs down for M&P sport 2.

I don't know how to post photos here but if anyone is curious I can e-mail.

I have an M&P myself and it is one of the most accurate rifles I own, which is crazy considering the price. Sub MOA out of the box with federal 55gr. Didn't have to tweak a single thing. Just threw on an optic and boom. Probably one of the only rifles I have ever purchased I could say that about.

Vendor is MIA. Waiting to hear back from Murray Charlton S&W warranty center (administrator acknowledged my email). It been such a hassle, I may just part out the upper to be done with it.

I wouldn't cut your losses you paid hard earned cash for something, I'd return it. If it's just the upper it would be just an exchange.
They said I have to ship the whole rifle in a locked hard case and the keys in another- with tracking. I only have one hard case plus I'm in the NWT so shipping is $$$. Its gonna cost me more than $100 to ship out in that fashion...

Ya fair enough enefgee. I have the shot norcs and one of my shooting partner owns two of them so I agree with you there. My comment was more directed towards unscrupulous Chinese factories that believe copyright means that they have the right to copy. These types of factories pump out knock off crap that know no tolerance. Maybe not so much in the Firearms industry just yet but I see it all the time in the automotive industry.

Whoever assembled it might've screwed the buffer tube in one turn too many but still somehow got the upper to fit against it. You could try turning it back one turn if that is the issue, hard to tell from the pictures. Might just be easier to return it as its pretty weird this was even approved in quality control.

I'm positive you don't have to do that. Just ship it in a sturdy carton and make sure it's well padded. As for keys, a cheap plastic trigger lock is all that's required. If you feel you must use a keyed lock, just buy the cheapest lock you can find, and mail those to them separately.

It's more likely that a chip got caught up in the fixture as the offending part was being loaded for machining. It happens when someone is not paying attention. The concern here is that it got past QC ... now we have multiple levels of failure when you throw in the fact that someone else actually assembled this. In cases like this the manufacturer should make good on replacement and ALL associated costs. It's up to you as a consumer to take them to task and accept nothing less. #### happens ... don't let it happen to you.
