Smith & Wesson MP sport 2.....poor quality!

I e-mailed the same vender (site sponsor) regarding my problems. No response, to be fair it has only been few days. I asked if they would send me an armorers wrench. So I could avoid the return hassle. I think I can properly index the barrel nut and buffer tube on my own.
 
So I just picked up my M&P, same fit and finish issue as the original poster. I got mine from a different vender. Judging by the speed they slapped my trigger lock on and resealed the box this is a known issue. Buddy kept his hand around the charging handle the whole time the box was open. I certainly hope the venders aren't intentionally passing on ill fitting hardware so we can deal with trying to get warranty
 
How the hell did it (could be either the upper or the lower, or both) get machined like that to begin with?

It's normal for there to be a very slight gap, but nothing like that.

So you'll be taking that straight back to the shop for an exchange right ? It will be interesting to hear what S&W has to say about what seems to be a recurring issue with manufacturing repeatability. More importantly how will they and their vendors step up to make it right.
 
When I got mine, I went and did it in person. I had a gentleman from Bullseye cut open a new Sport 2 box and take the item out for me. I inspected it thoroughly. Took out the BCG, all that good stuff. I was asked if I wanted a new unopened one or the one I had looked at, and I said I'll take the one I opened as it would be the respectful thing to do, especially as I had now rendered that unit "open box". I took a photo of it and of the serial number on the box, and paid for it. Four weeks later, the firearm gods blessed me with a notification that I could finally bring it home.

Lesson here is buy from Bullseye if you can, even if the price is higher. The extra 20 bucks is worth the headache reduction. But they do price match anyway.

Yes, buying in person lets you see the actual rifle, and supports local shops. Worth a few extra $ in my books.

Awesome local shops will support local events, like all our great dssmatch.com sponsors!
 
Looked at mine and there is also a gap at the same place. Don't know if it's as big original poster , but there is a gap. There is no wobble between the lower and upper, everything else look great.

My son just got one and it also has a gap. He says "So, what?". It's a budget rifle and is an excellent deal. After all, it's an AR, so it should work just fine. I think, he's right.

A gap is not a gap is not a gap. It's perfectly normal for there to be a slight gap there (like the horizontal gap between the upper and lower). The tolerance for that radius in front of the receiver extension in the blueprint of the lower receiver is +.006 and -.000 from the center of the front pivot pin, I don't have the upper blueprint on hand but I assume there is an allowable tolerance too, probably +.000 to -.something.

What OP and others have on hand, however, is atrociously out of whack.

Yeah there are some major differences between yours and mine. I see that yours also has white and red text on the side, which is not the case on mine or on the rifles featured on the official website. I honestly think that thing might be a knockoff. Unless I'm off and you modded that yourself.

Mostly likely he colour filled it him self
 
Correct, I color filled my lettering. Looks great it's easy and I recommend doing it. Hoping to find an armorer wrench and tooling locally to fix mine since Tenda has not responded to my e-mail.

Such a shame I've spent a few thousand bucks there this year. I won't be spending anymore!
