I’m new to the Snider-Enfield and black powder world but not new to the world of military firearms. I have been a Weapons Tech in the CAF for 18 years now and have seen a few Snider-Enfield’s (most of them were in museums). I came across the one listed below at a local gun store and snapped it up very quickly. The metal finish and wood finish are in very good shape for its age and the rifling of the bore is clean and crisp and there is no marking on the face of the breechblock at all. Its almost like its never been fired in the 142 years since it left the BSACo factory.

Battalion Number/Name: 2HGA (2nd Halifax Garrison Artillery)
Stand #: 180
Snider Mark: III
Rifle type: Short Rifle
Lock Date: 1872/BSACo
DC no diamond, right side of butt
Serial number: 933, underside of breechblock and on breechblock release handle
Notes: Rob Mathes, Oromocto, New Brunswick, Canada

I wanted to include detailed photos I have taken but cant seem to figure out how to do it. I’m not the most wed savvy person so any help (links to the sites that I can do it from) would be great.

The one I use for photos is imgur because no account or sign-up is needed. http://imgur.com

On the top is a button that says "upload images"; just follow the prompts. After they load, look on the right of each picture and you will see a list of the "urls" - highlight & copy the one that says "message boards and forums" and just paste it directly into your post. That's it...

I ain't 'zactly computer literate but that way worked for me anyway - lookin' forward to seeing the photos, sounds like a good one

Here we go got the photos uploaded.

Looks nice. I would think it has been spruced up a bit as the metal seems to sit a bit proud and the butt shows the dark oil staining, The barrel markings appear a bit obscured but maybe just the pics.

For fun, I would take it out of the stock and check he bottom of the barrel as well

So for fun I removed the barrel from the stock. These photos show the markings on the stock, underside of barrel and breech area. I gave the underside of the barrel 1 wipe with a with a clean dry rag. To me it looks like its never been touched or who ever spruced it up had some skills.
