Sniper Challenge

Perhaps we could look at a format that would allow participants to make a choice between that and an other event. Not everyone is in the shape required to do the crawl. Thats the challenge, give teams the option to push there shooting skills as far as they like, not necessarily their physical abilities. In order to simulate authentic sniper conditions we would have to all be athletes. I have friends who served Canadian and American forces in the sniper role, the degree of difficulty required to make their shots is well beyond most civilian shooters. Having said that, all options are on the table at this point.

Im sure we can make the 900m homestead range available at some point if we know long enough in advance or if a winter shoot would be in the cards. The terrain is great, and you could shoot all the way out to 900. We would need a range officer etc. but I'm sure it could work. If anyone is interested in a winter shoot at Homestead, then send me a PM and I'm sure we could make it happen.
Cheers
Eric

Oh yea I'd be in, means a new paint job for my 243.....oh wait I just did that....but it was not in white...I can do it then ..I'm still in.

Cheers:cheers:

I am in, sounds like a great idea. We need more shoots like this they are a lot more fun than just shooting at know distance.

Leave the camo. I'm leaning more towards a summer shoot. I takes time to put these things together. The amount of work involved to shoot at a range is nuts, setting something up on private property is that much more involved. There are people who have the expertise to pull it off, and I have sent PMs to them hoping they will help.

We are in the planning stage right now. The area we hope to use has a narrow window that we could access in the early spring. I'm not sure that would be enough time between now and then to put on the type of event we want. The area needs to be looked at to see how we would set it up. It has 144 square miles that has lakes, steams, bush and huge open areas. At this point only one person knows the area and he has agreed to help put this together. He comes to the table with military and competition experience. We intend to get together the 1st week of November to have a look. In order to stage a shoot of this type it requires a major commitment. If we can't do it first class, theres no point. Lets keep the thread open, any suggestions are more than welcome.

Right on keep us posted on the latest.

I"m in!!! I personally think the targets should be steel, man sized with seperate plates for body and head so we can hear the report. Some will be close and some will be far. All distances will be unknown but range finders should be allowed, the focus should be about getting through it with as few rounds as needed to make hits and keep moving. The spotter should angage close targets while the shooter engages the others. The spotter and shooter can trade off and pick their weapons accordingly. I think if the focus is on completing the course day after day, there will be great stories to be told in the evenings, scores can be kept but it can be based on distance 'X' hit location on target or something like that. The course would change from day to day while keeping with the same size and shape target.

I'm going to taking a look at some land in the next couple weeks also and take some photos also.

Since the event will be move and shoot orientated, the "range officer" can move behind the teams and take pics of the targets as they go and keep score. Ideally to have courses set up in three directions away from base camp and have three teams going at the same time would be awesome. That way we can get through the courses with more teams.

Just my thoughts. so far. I'll keep thinking and it.

I like the responses so far too. Keep'm come'n.

The response is great. Within the next couple of weeks we should have a core group of people to help organize. As soon as we can we need to get together. I'll see brian most likely first week next month. The area he has in mind has everything were looking for, except the window of availability is narrow. It has to be early spring. Anyway,go look, take pics, i'll do the same. You show me yours, I'll show you mine. There are a number of people with the experience setting up this type of thing willing to contribute. I'll look into some kind of group video conference thing so we can all get together.

How about we give all the teams a 2km head start to make a 15 km destination unknown to me and my partner. We will hunt the teams down on horseback and any team we catch is out. The teams that make it to the finish line will be given the opportunity to fire one round at thier choice of unknown distance targets. The team that sucessfully gets to the destination and engages the furthest target gets a ride back to camp and a hot meal All other teams walk and choke down an IMP :) A point system based on time and target engaged can be made up to go towards final competition placement if your caught you score 0.

Brian you could DD for 15kms!! lol

LOL hell no!! That's why I will be on horse back chasing those still young enough. Was thinking more for the young ones like you that want a little bit of the silly bugger in the bush experience on the shoot. For us old out of shape guys I would suggest a shooting event at the same time as the run for your life event is going on, with a single round elimination until one compediting team is left. Offering the same point structure as those playing hide and go seek.

I'm with my southern buddy.... DADDY DON'T DD!!!
