Sniper/Precision Match: What are you using?

Airborn_69 said:
Yup, but should have an advantage at our up to 300m Precision shoots with the .223 10FP...Less recoil = Tighter goups

Dude, with my 17.5 lbs AI-700 in .308Win , there is NO recoil. just a very light push straight back with no muzzle rise.:D

ditto its the guys who call your wind, spot for you and get you on paper the first round that you should look for...I know two real deal guy's are here and there is alot more to being a sniper then being a good shot;)

My kid's first real match, the targets were for 500 meters unlimted were claybirds .
The wind was wicked, as was the rain and sleet!
One of my older friends and an ex DCRA shooter called the wind for him after his first shot, and he did a good job on the bird, good enough to win third in the agg.
The final call was about 6' right windage!
No one else hit that day as the condition changed constantly and unpredictablly.

Cat: You guys are most definately an outstanding help. I can credit the majority of my firearms knowledge (not that I really have all that much, but still :p) to you guys.

SKBY: Holy crap, that rifle BARELY makes the maximum weight requirement. Is the AICS really heavy?

Levi: You've got two rifles going as well? Post pics!

6feet right wind? at 500meters..is that a typo?

NOPE!! 55 grain bullet out of a BT112 with a 1:9 twist.
he ran out ( loaned the rifle to a buddy) of 69 grain Alberta Wildcats!
She was wicked.
We've seen days where we are holding on the back end of the buffalo next to the one we are shooting at with our BPCR rifles!
The wind kinda whistles up and around the berms sometimes.

Factor in the weight of a stainless 26.5" long AMTU Contour barrel (1.250" tapering to .950"),AI Bipod, C3A1 Handstop, and the big mighty S&B scope, the weight starts to add up........

I will do my best to make it Skullboy, It would be a hoot to try. I used to shoot the .223 alot but havent played with them much since I have gotten my customs.

I remember the first time Cat challenged me to hit a target at 500meters to prove myself was with my Savage in.223, I hit it and then he made me do it again. Some people eh!! If I remember right it was a 1.5"-2" diamater hairspray bottle. Im betting when we get our range pushed out to 1000 he's still got that same bottle for me to hit. And if I miss I will never hear the end of it.:p  :D

Yup, even a blind dawg finds a biiscuit every now and then!:D :D
Nope, I picked that one up and threw it in the trash ( wouldn't want too many people to see it , ya know!)
Maybe I can talk you into a nice 45/70 when we get the range pushed out.
Nuthin' like layin' on the ground with a sling 'n' irons and droppin' them in there!:dancingbanana:

Hey, WAITAMINIT!!
As I recall now, it wasn't acually a challenge, but a "go ahead" kinda comment.
Twice?
you hit it once as I recall, no wind, perfect sky, and I think Danger Deb actually fired at the SAME TIME??!!
Hmmm, wonder if it was HER that hit it......:D

Ouch now that hurts!!:slap: :sniper:

Just cause Danger Deb can outshoot you is no reason to pick on me!!:p

Im scared of the 45-70 it might be what sends me out to buy that sharps rifle I've been having dreams about, I just have way to many barrels to feed as it is now, I thought my teenagers were hard to feed.

LRC, your more than welcome to use my HS providing the new scope shows up in time! I have no problems with that, it weights 15lbs7oz & is comfortable to shoot. 5 & 10 round mags available. What ever suites your fancy. :D (This should level the playing field a bit for you)!

I've seen that rig Blackcloud, It is a very nice rifle and I appreciate the offer but judging buy the shoot format I would be worried about dropping it in some of those contorted shooting positions the guys have planned for this competition. I wouldnt worry about banging up the wifes Savage to much..................then again maybe I will use yours!!.

If im able to make this competition and It looks possible right now, work pending. I will probably have Rick do me up something special for this type of competition if it is something I deside to persue further. It sounds like it will be a hoot and im sure the bug will take hold and maybe something we can look at as setting as an event for Ft. Mcmurray's new 1000 meter range.

Wanna take a road trip with me this summer Cat and put those IOR scopes of yours to good use.?

Yikes! Guess I deserved that one right across the bow!:slap:

Believe it or not the 45/70 is CHEAP to shoot!:)
The Brownings have a far faster locktime that the Sharps, although the Sharps does have some good features.

Jeepers, if I had that kind of time to do a road trip LRC it would be to a Palma
or other belly gunner shoot!:shotgun:
Just not enough time to do stuff these days, and we will be moving the stuff from my Ma in Law's estate this summer as well , so I'm going to have to cancel my 1000 yarder at Delia this year also.
Drayton Valley and Panoka will be it for out of towners.
I would like to try to get to Summerland sometime, but I don't think that will work either.

I'd likely get some strange looks if I showed up
with my falling blocks, eh?:D

Skullboy: Whoa, okay that changes things then. Yeah that S&B sure is one hell of a scope! Do you have the same one the CF uses?

Blackcloud: What are you planning on using for the match (if you can get time off)?

cat: I'm not sure if this has been covered, but are you making the match by any chance?

-Rohann

No Rohan, sadly not.
I'd like to make about four more matches year than I do now, but time does not permit.
Whenn I was younger I was gone almost every weekend out of town to one match or another, but with the kids and my responsibilities with the Fish and game, Union, and my brotherhood, I have a hard time scheduling stuff...
