Sniper's Hide - Elcan SpecterDR 1x/4x Review

A little heavy/thick in the middle and a little pricey are the only weaknesses I can identify.

And for me being a lefty I'd love to have the lever on the right

But nothing is ever perfect.

Other than that this is the best combat 1-4 optic ever produced. Imo.

The biggest drawbacks in my opinion:

- Poi shift from 1 to 4 power. (Guys are going to defend Elcan to the 9th degree indicating it doesn't exist, and they may well be right that they have not experienced it, but that gremlin is out there).

- Arms mount with that bloody spring holding the tension between optic and mount. Come on fellas, that was old news when I got out 15 years ago. Surely they can develop a better solution?

- The price is out to lunch. Ernest Lietz has good glass and that certainly translates over to the Elcan line of optics, but they need to offer more than good glass for a product that retails for close to $3000.

My last Elcan I used was a gen. 3 or 4 and it held zero decently for range use. It was bought and later sold for $600. It was priced accordingly for what it was.

POI shifting issue has been fixed after initial batch.

ARMS mount is not the manufacturer's choice, it was specifically written in the contract to use ARMS mount by the military.

Price - expensive yes but so are other high end brands like Sworvski and S&B.

Very happy with my DR 1-4 purchased this spring. Been through 6, 3gun matches. Have removed it every time I've cleaned my rifle, at least a dozen times or so. Originally zeroed at 100m with Federal 5.56 XM193 55gr. Checked 100m zero a couple of weeks ago using American Eagle .223 55gr. Only had to adjust up one click to be dead on zero again. I would assume the slight drop was due to the difference in ammo. No complaints.
