It is that time of the year again. Have the snow geese arrived to your area? Here in southern Quebec, the season opened more than two weeks ago, but there are no birds thus far, at least not to my knowledge.

What about other areas?

Please report the progress of the migration in your area, so that other hunters may benefit and plan their hunt accordingly.

No snow geese here just lots of snow.lol. I did see my first flock of Canada's yesterday. A small group of 6 to 7 birds feeding on an open space of grass in Pine Falls.

Snow geese have been in the area (Cornwall, Lancaster) for the last week or so...several thousand birds.

I think they have learned that they get hammered too hard, on that side of the border.

Yes indeed, it seems that they have figured out where the Quebec border is located, and which side is safe. I have never figured out why we have a spring conservation hunt in Quebec, and there is none in eastern Ontario. Probably just one more case of Ottawa giving Quebec everything it wants.;^)

Thanks for the info, I am only a few miles from the border, which means it is probably time to go check on the fields where I plan to hunt.

I was really hoping for SG this spring.I heard next spring aswell. Was hopin' to get the new boat and motor out this spring. Oh well, fishing will do till next season I guess.

No snows around these parts, very very rare here. saw my first Canadas today though. Spring is on its way. We are booked in for a Snow hunt in Quebec first week of May around Pierreville. Hope it doesnt warm up too quick and send em too far north!

Pierreville is on the south side of Lac St-Pierre, about 90 kms north-east of Montreal. I went hunting for Snows on the north side of the lake, near Berthierville, two years ago on April 18th, and the birds were plentiful. Last year, on about the same same date most of the birds were long gone from the area and the hunt had to be canceled.

The first week in May would probably be the outside limit of the hunting season in a good year, where the ground remains covered with snow for some time. There is not much snow on the ground this year, so it may not be the case.

If you have booked with Claude Angiolini, who operates in that area, he appears to be a straight guy who will tell you the truth about the possibility of getting birds. However, you may only find out a few days before your planned hunt.

If it were me, and I wanted to play it safe at that time of year, I would go further to the north-east, either to Cap Tourmente, Ile aux Grues or the Montmagny area.

The snow geese have arrived in southwestern Quebec. I went scouting this afternoon south of Valleyfield, Qc. There is a fair number of Snow Geese and Canada Geese. We saw several flocks, sometimes numbering in the thousands. Right now, they seem to favour flooded corn fields. Not sure why. Still very little open water to roost, or so it seems.
