No snows around these parts, very very rare here. saw my first Canadas today though. Spring is on its way. We are booked in for a Snow hunt in Quebec first week of May around Pierreville. Hope it doesnt warm up too quick and send em too far north!
Pierreville is on the south side of Lac St-Pierre, about 90 kms north-east of Montreal. I went hunting for Snows on the north side of the lake, near Berthierville, two years ago on April 18th, and the birds were plentiful. Last year, on about the same same date most of the birds were long gone from the area and the hunt had to be canceled.
The first week in May would probably be the outside limit of the hunting season in a good year, where the ground remains covered with snow for some time. There is not much snow on the ground this year, so it may not be the case.
If you have booked with Claude Angiolini, who operates in that area, he appears to be a straight guy who will tell you the truth about the possibility of getting birds. However, you may only find out a few days before your planned hunt.
If it were me, and I wanted to play it safe at that time of year, I would go further to the north-east, either to Cap Tourmente, Ile aux Grues or the Montmagny area.
