Whiners!
Here's a .44 snubby you don't even need a PAL to own, it's Antique:
Just to compare, here's a modern S&W Model 36 Ladysmith photographed with the same loonie
If you have to have a Detective Special, consider that Colt started making them in 1927, and if you have a relative with their 12(6), you could make use of section 12(7) to obtain one made before 1946. If you can't find an honest one, get a regular Police Positive re-barreled to 2" -- there are plenty of 4" revolvers made before 1946 that could stand to be shorter. If you'd rather have a Smith & Wesson, again, no shortage of pre-46 examples.
If you have no 12(6) relatives and no imagination, but still need a pocket Colt, just find one like this little ($300) gem, made in 1896, and have it converted to rimfire. Hey presto, it gets de-registered and once again, no PAL required. It can be an antique!
There is also the ultimate solution of licensing a firearms company which can own prohibs. And prohibited devices. Sure, it would cost you $125 a year (in Alberta) plus corporate registry fees and doubtless a few other miner whiner costs, but again, you could own ANYTHING ... oh wait, you would own nothing. The company would OWN it, you could just have and play with it all and sell it to other guys with companies... again, if there was something I really wanted, I would find a way. I would not whine.
But all this is easily said. I went to sleep one night with a 4" model 13 in my gun safe and woke up the next morning grandfathered for 12(6). You poor non-12(6) guys actually have to try a tiny bit harder to own the same -- or even better -- guns than the 12(6) crowd.
OK, back to your whining. I'll get you started: It's all impossible, so unfair, you can't have anything, etc.
