Snubbies ~ Do you miss them?

I've always wanted a snubbie .38. Know they're not that accurate but growing up and seeing Detectives on the big and small screen shooting it out with the bad guys ingrained in me that was "good guys" gun. And they never seem to run out of ammo during a shootout with the bad guys. When they do though you just pull the back up out of your ankle holster and you're good for another 25 rounds!

How can you miss something that you can't own, or did you have them before the stupid prohib laws? I have 12(6) so I don't miss them at all, even have a 3" 44 Mag, now that spits fire like a dragon.

Hard to miss something you never had..... I sure miss scarlet Johanson lol a guy can dream still, what's a person without dreams

Well, this is The Problem, isn't it? I have yet to find a 12-6 owner that doesn't grin an evil little grin as they show off their prohib snubbies to me. And it gets even WORSE when they "innocently" offer to let me try them. All too often the evil little grin becomes downright demonical just out of the corner of my eye as I turn away to shoot. But if I snap back to look them in the eye they are all innocent looking...... Grrrrrrr! ! ! ! ! !

So yeah, it's VERY easy to miss these guns that I'm not allowed to own.

Hmm, well not everyone was born here or grew up here with these current libtard laws. I did grow up in Alberta as a child and then spent some time south of the border. Getting a snubbie was as easy as walking into the LGS and pointing to the one you would like under the glass then taking it home!

Its not surprising about these comments, "how can you miss something you never had".....Its the master plan of PET's Liberals coming to life as all the owners attrition out and all the new gun owners don't know what a Snubbie is :(

I have owned my fair share south of the border but not allowed to here in Canada because when I did come back, it was to the new laws that I heard nothing about.

So been here a while and I never though I would miss them, but the other day, WHAM, miss the snubbies and of course you only truly only miss what you can't have!

I hope for the day there are so many of us Gun Owners that we either have our own party or we force one to get rid of these laws so sanity will return in regards to Firearms.

Here's a couple of examples from England. Like another OP I wasn't paying attention to what was going on and wasn't even a member of a club at the time. If I'd known I'd have picked up an few FAL's to give me a few more 12's on my licence.

I was young, dumb and poor when C-68 happened. Had a Norinco AK, Ishy FN, and a Beretta M1934 that I sold off prior to it going into effect thinking they would be grabbed with no compensation.
I don't miss those particular firearms per se, (except the Norinco which ran like a top) nor have I ever been into snubby revolvers, but would enjoy the option of owning other firearms.

I miss them. I also miss .25 autos and .32 autos. I miss AK 74's and uzi's, tec 9's, and mini 14's. I miss high capacity mags too. I miss 80% 1911 receivers

Whiners!

Here's a .44 snubby you don't even need a PAL to own, it's Antique:

Just to compare, here's a modern S&W Model 36 Ladysmith photographed with the same loonie

If you have to have a Detective Special, consider that Colt started making them in 1927, and if you have a relative with their 12(6), you could make use of section 12(7) to obtain one made before 1946. If you can't find an honest one, get a regular Police Positive re-barreled to 2" -- there are plenty of 4" revolvers made before 1946 that could stand to be shorter. If you'd rather have a Smith & Wesson, again, no shortage of pre-46 examples.

If you have no 12(6) relatives and no imagination, but still need a pocket Colt, just find one like this little ($300) gem, made in 1896, and have it converted to rimfire. Hey presto, it gets de-registered and once again, no PAL required. It can be an antique!

There is also the ultimate solution of licensing a firearms company which can own prohibs. And prohibited devices. Sure, it would cost you $125 a year (in Alberta) plus corporate registry fees and doubtless a few other miner whiner costs, but again, you could own ANYTHING ... oh wait, you would own nothing. The company would OWN it, you could just have and play with it all and sell it to other guys with companies... again, if there was something I really wanted, I would find a way. I would not whine.

But all this is easily said. I went to sleep one night with a 4" model 13 in my gun safe and woke up the next morning grandfathered for 12(6). You poor non-12(6) guys actually have to try a tiny bit harder to own the same -- or even better -- guns than the 12(6) crowd.

OK, back to your whining. I'll get you started: It's all impossible, so unfair, you can't have anything, etc.

Common misconception, actually a snubby is more intrinsically accurate than most service sized pistols - using a Ransom rest I've seen snubbies shoot 1 inch @ 25 yards. They are, however hard to shoot well. PPC shooters with 12.6 can still compete in 'Snubnose Matches' - and it's quite amazing how good the targets of the top shooters are.

I would sure like a 4" S&W Model 19 and a Model 18. A J Frame or two would also be nice to have for the reference collection.

Do I miss them? No, I was age challenged when they went full retard on prohibs. I wish I could own them. Its also is disgusting that they will all be destroyed if nothing changes. The least they could have done is went the way of the US, and made registered ones transferable, so history isn't destroyed piece by piece.

I'll second this. I watched a video of Bob Munden shoot an egg at 100yrds with a short barreled 38spl.

"...there illegal..." Where?
"...till we get CCW..." You'll never see that in Canada. You're about 80 years too late.
"...Hard to miss something you never had..." That too. Isn't just 2" barrels though. 4" barrels are evil too.
