So, how do YOU open that 7.62x39 crate???(Crate Opening for Dummies.)

The price for new ammo has gone up because the price of metal has gone up. The same reason bums are stealing wire, etc.

That should only effect the cost of new ammo, not stuff made back in the 70's...which is allot cheaper in Europe right now then here in Canada.

Thats awsome! It took 3 of us to get mine open , im small guy so me by myself standing on top of a crate of ammo trying to pull those tabs was a funny sight! I am going to use your method for my next case for sure !

So what do you guys do with the tin, just throw it in the trash after you are done? It seems kind of bulky to me lol

I throw out the tin , but I keep the box , they make good storage boxes and i use one to take my ammo to the range , it also works great as a rest for my rifle! I have 4 of them now but im sure there are people on here that have more old crates than that !

I'd like to see the look on the recycling guy's face when he is picking up a piece of tin that's been torn open and has a picture of a stripper clip and 7,62 on it LOL
I have 2 crates now, the boxes are cool :)

I didn't read the thread, just the title.

I slip a big screwdriver into one of the rings in the lid. Then I stand on the corners of the box, grab the screwdriver with both hands, and stand up. The lid peels right off.

The south african 7.62 nato crates are WAY harder to open!

I received my first crate today and when I opened the wooden box I almost crapped! I had never seen anything like it. After I finished laughing and calling my family in to have a look, reality set in…. how the %$#% do you open it? Attempted to do some searches using standard keywords and it returned to many results. It reminded me of a large can of sardines. Did a search on ‘sardine can’ and presto, your post came up. Worked like a charm! Look out little paper guy, you’re going down!
BTW, does anyone know how to read the markings? I am curious to know when this stuff was made.
