I have a 202 in 9.3. It shoots well, very smooth action, fit and finish is top notch. It's a great rifle no doubt, but if the switch barrel is not of use/interest to you, the extra cost may not be worth it. Honestly I think a Sako is better value. A base model 202 will run you $3-4k, and the wood you get for that money is nothing special. If you want nicer wood you are stepping up to the deluxe models and the cost increases significantly. You could go with a 101, base model is about $2k but again, wood is fairly plain. If you step up to the 101 select, you get a fancier looking stock but that model has laser enhanced grain, which is not something I would want on a nearly $3000 rifle. I would take a look at a Sako Grizzly. You get a nice handy rifle with fluted barrel and open sights and some very nice wood for around $2k. I have one in 308 with beautiful figure in the stock. I have not seen wood of this quality at this price point from the other major Euro makes.

Yeah, some people are pretty dumb! I like the clip in my Tikka, and would prefer a clip to a floor plate in most others if available. You can shove in a clip much faster than one at a time from the top. And you could always carry a spare in your pocket fully loaded. In climbing into a tree stand, at a bear bait site, you don't want the extra noise of loading a magazine from the top!

While the Sako BlackBear is definitely a fine choice, at $2000 it also increases the number of potential candidates available for consideration. And if you're going to spend
$2000 you might as well look at all your possible choices. I have the Blackbear in 9.3x62mm and it's a beautiful rifle: short carbine length, light and very nimble (lively) to
handle, great iron sights and the detachable magazine is easily top loaded like a floor plate mag. The only down side is the recoil pad, which has been aptly described as a
Hockey Puck by others, but it is easily remedied with a LimbSaver recoil pad for about $40 that adds about 1/4 to 3/8 of an inch to the rifles length. I have also added the
8.1 ounce Leupold VX- Hog 1-4x20mm scope to the rifle and I think it makes for a great bush pusher.

Any suggestions on rate of twist and barrel contour & length out there?

I picked up a Zastavia M70 from Tradex a couple of years ago. The stock is a little rough but the steel is well fitted and finished. The action on mine was a little rough but some oil and the rifle in my lap over a football game smoothed it out. Mine shoots about the same as the John's. For the money this is good value.

For the average working man's budget, the CZ550 FS has to be one of the most beautiful guns out there. It solidly draws my vote on this one. If you have the money to spend then by all means look to a Sauer (sp?) or something along that ilk, but I am not sure those choices will be "better" or more aesthetically pleasing. I am firmly entrenched in the camp of a hinge plate on a hunting rifle. You'll never forget your magazine at home ...
I think there is a CZ550 FS on the EE today..
